Now this is something I can try!

Questions…. Does footwear make a difference? Slippers vs barefoot vs trainers vs work shoes!
Is trying it regardless of footwear better than waiting barefoot time
How high off the floor is the raised foot? I’m thinking standing by photocopier is just off floor rested on foot ok?!?

Am I over thinking this?

Work now so will try later!

Don't think, just do ;-)

I tend to extend the leg off floor straight in front. Barefoot or just socks gives you more 'feel'

I used to use my wobble board in the kitchen at our old house: tile floor and worktops to hold on to for mounting / dismounting

After I had labyrinthitis in 2018, my balance has never been quite the same, plus I had a chronic achilles injury for most of 2022. I got into the habit of standing on one leg while brushing my teeth morning and evening and it really helped the ankle / achilles. I can't do it with eyes closed, probably a legacy of the labyrinthitis.

Pix - yes, footwear makes a great difference. Easiest is in trainers as they give the foot some support, hardest is barefoot/socks on soft surface, mats, towels, thick carpet. So start with trainers on.

I bend my knee and raise foot behind so level with knee. I'm transferring the weight from hand to hand in front of my body so don't want to raise foot in front of my body.

so easy ones at work in trainers then try again at home!!
I wonder if trainers and eyes closed is therefore "easy"?

Just any time you're standing around, hover one foot fractionally above the ground - as long as you're not loading the second foot it should have some effect.

I use a cheap bosu ball equivalent, and you can subtly change the difficulty by changing the amount of air in it. Being incredibly flat footed though, it can really tire my calves out!

Pix - with trainers it's easier but it's still hard with eyes closed.

I do a minute each foot on a wobble cushion while brushing teeth. Started again recently (after a long break) after an ankle sprain to give it some exercise.

Eyes closed is challenging but with practice I got good at it a while back. Maybe start again.

I've always stood on one foot to take off my leggings when out running.

About This Thread

Maintained by Derby Tup
Sharkie's current blog has piqued my interest in standing on one leg for training to increase proprioception. It's a great little exercise to improve off-road running skill, or recover from lower leg injuries especially twisted ankles

A wobble board is useful but you can do it without equipment while brushing your teeth, queuing for a coffee etc

My real interest is improving my 'eyes closed' time
