I do the alphabet leg stand as part of my core strength exercises.
I also do single leg squats and single leg hip rotations on a wobble ball thing as part of my conditioning routine. As part of the strengthening routine I also do a hamstring strength exercise with a dumbbell that involves standing on one leg and bending to put the the dumbbell on the floor whilst the none standing leg extends out behind you.
I do core 3 times a week and conditioning 3 times a week (but not on the same day)
Yoga every day gets me standing on one leg.
I would have said I haven’t fallen over out running since I started doing these but i tripped over a piece of driftwood poking out the sand on the beach on Saturday night

Never done them with my eyes shut

Thanks to be honest I didn’t think about how much standing on one leg I do til I listed it. Unless of course you are commenting on my ability to find a 2 inch piece of wood sticking up in miles of beach 😁

You do more S&C in a week than I do all year I think!

(note to self not something to be proud of)

Eyes shut makes it much tougher for sure. I could stand on one leg for several minutes eyes open either leg but shut is a big step up

And other movement is what's really important. On my first blog today I wrote that I don't think anything over a minute, merely standing still -wherever the free leg is positioned - is particularly useful. It's a bit like boasting about 5 minute planks. So what?

I didn't mean you were showing off DT! Must clarify that! xx

About This Thread

Maintained by Derby Tup
Sharkie's current blog has piqued my interest in standing on one leg for training to increase proprioception. It's a great little exercise to improve off-road running skill, or recover from lower leg injuries especially twisted ankles

A wobble board is useful but you can do it without equipment while brushing your teeth, queuing for a coffee etc

My real interest is improving my 'eyes closed' time
