Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I am also in the "want for convenience but have a stick blender & not much space" camp.

Right I have just thrown together a quick pot of tomato and lentil soup. Took minutes to prepare and will simmer away for another 30 or so while have another coffee and shower. Will be about 6 portions when ready. I do not need a soup maker.

What do people use to freeze soup in?
Bags seem more logical but take up more space in the freezer than a box?

I have been my soaking my broth mix all night so off to make some broth.

I have Chinese carry out cartons - 2 ladles into each gives me enough for a lunch time portion - especially if I leave it chunky

I use whatever freezable/microwaveable plastic containers with lids I have floating about. If have a few the same they are stackable. Ready meals/takeaway cartons are good to hold 1 or 2 portions. Old 1kg yoghurt pots (the round ones with handles and plastic lids) are good for a big batch. When was taking soup to work also used the microwaveable soup cups with lids and steam vent so could take out of freezer in morning and heating up at lunchtime(I know you want to heat at home so probably no benefit for you with those just now)

I use freezer bags for single servings, they all line up nicely across a drawer and made bricks which tessellate but can be separated at will. It’s the most efficient use of tiny freezer space for me. I can only get 2 or 3 plastic containers in a drawer but 6 bags easily.

About This Thread

Maintained by EvilPixie
It’s got to that time of the year when soup is king!

Last winter I was wfh and happily heated up soup knowing that no one would know if I was late back to work (not that I took breaks anyway!).

Now I’m back in the office I’m reluctant to use the tiny kitchen as it’s well used and little cleaned. So thought I’d dig out my food flask and take hot soup/ food in with me. This also allows warm food post lunchtime walk or run.

Which leads me to ….. soup makers.

To buy or not ...
