I’ve got a soup maker and think it’s great. I’d never have made as much soup if I didn’t have it. It makes quite a few portions. Need to dust it off as it’s getting to that time of year again. |

I have a soup maker and it gets plenty of use. It's this one: argos.co.uk It's basically a kettle with a blender blade in the lid. Smooth soup in 20 minutes, chunky in 25 (and you can blitz it after). I could quite easily make soup on the hob but the benefit of this thing is that you set it and walk away -- ideal for a run, prep it before, set it after, and it does while I'm in the shower and needs no supervision. Any leftovers get scooped into it, add a stock cube and water, handful of lentils if I think it might be a bit thin, and done. Can be a bit awkward to clean if you let deposits dry on the blender lid element, so just rinse it quickly under the tap before you sit down to eat. And I find that chopping up the ingredients small and zapping them in microwave in advance to soften them up helps (eg, fibrous broccoli stalks, which I used to bin). If I were to buy again I'd probably get one that sautes, but that too can be gotten around -- when frying or traybaking for other stuff I some add some extra with the soup maker in mind. |

It is a bit small, makes two greedy or three modest portions. Ideal for me as a single bloke.

You can buy that one direct from Morphy Richards with free delivery. morphyrichards.co.uk Am softening to their advantages but given think large batches at the weekend and half frozen works better for me. |

And it's £15 cheaper if you factor in free delivery. For £40 you can't really go wrong. I also have an electric pressure cooker which is good for batch cooking. No whizzer in it of course but I can use the soupie for that. |
