It’s got to that time of the year when soup is king!

Last winter I was wfh and happily heated up soup knowing that no one would know if I was late back to work (not that I took breaks anyway!).

Now I’m back in the office I’m reluctant to use the tiny kitchen as it’s well used and little cleaned. So thought I’d dig out my food flask and take hot soup/ food in with me. This also allows warm food post lunchtime walk or run.

Which leads me to ….. soup makers.

To buy or not to buy!

Yes it cooks and blends giving fresh soup in 20 odd mins but is it worth it?

Is it just as easy to batch make at weekend and heat up in the morning?

I mean I could set it up do some exercise and have it ready in a maker so that sounds positive but then it’s daily veg prep. Or can that be done at the weekend? But if you’re doing that at the weekend why not make soup then?

I love the idea of homemade soup but not sure if a maker is worth the cost (it also seems that the world is buying them as severs are out of stock!)

Over to you!
Hints and tips on homemade soup and opinions on makers please!

We make quite a lot of soup and either use a 30 cm Le Creuset pot for small batches or a much bigger stainless number for normal batches. After cooking in or on the Aga we liquidise with a twelve quid handheld ‘stick’. I love stirring and watching the soup develop as its cooking

My wife considers our soup maker the best kitchen appliance I have bought (I have bought quite a few appliances!)
20 minutes to make a soup, enough for 3 portions. We use leftover roast veg for veg soup, tinned tomatoes to make tomato soup, and we always seem to have leftover mushrooms for making mushroom soup.

We got a soup maker recently. I quite like it as it does take a lot of the effort out of it, but I think you need to experiment to see what works for you. If you like your soup smooth, it's very quick (just under 20 minutes) and you just have to chuck in some chopped up veg, water and stock cube/powder. I did some today that was kale, leek, onion (red), carrot, garlic water and veg bouillon (3 teaspoons), a little salt and pepper. Cleaning the thing is a bit fiddly, I find, but that's probably my only criticism. Probably no good if you're cooking for a family but great if there's two of you.

We bought a soup maker last year, best thing ever (apart from coffee machine obv!). Morphy Richards, 21 minutes for a smooth soup and I find it really easy to rinse out afterwards. lianaskitchen.co.uk has loads of soup maker ideas.
