OO61 - we do have venetian blinds in the bedrooms, but like having curtains as well. Update on curtain pole below ..
Aquarius - glad to hear this itchy lumps have almost gone. Well done re the pace repeats session - and yes, I'd imagine the jabs have caused you to feel a bit under the weather. Margaret's cold seems to have abated - she's just coughing like a 40 a day smoker now though
I did the curtain pole this morning. As mentioned, the problem was the middle bracket, but I managed to drill a deeper hole and use a bigger rawlplug and it seems to be firm enough now (time will tell!). The pole is in two parts and they meet inside the middle bracket. To help them stay together, I sawed the head off a small diameter bolt, drilled a hole in each half of the curtain pole the same size and was then able to use the small bolt as a kind of dowel to keep the two poles connected. For good measure, I polished the curtain pole so the curtains glide better and Margaret isn't tempted to yank them open and shut!
No update yet from the golf shop about my new shoes - I'll send another email to check the status. For all I know, they could have arrived but nobody has got round to telling me!

WtnMel I think you and Steve must have gone to the same school of DIY, that's just the sort of solution he'd come up with.
We have plantation shutters at all our windows but funnily enough Steve was just saying yesterday that he'd like some curtains in the bedroom as well, mainly to brighten up the room. I think he's also considering redecorating. I hope not because I know from experience one job inevitably leads to another....
HS I've been meaning to say that if you had your Shingles jab when you turned 70 you won't be called for another one. At that time the vaccine they used was a single dose one, it's only recently that they've changed to one that is given in two doses. When Steve got his Shingles vaccine 5 years ago it was the single dose one, but when I got mine in February this year I was told it was a new vaccine that's given in two doses six months apart, which is why I've just had my second one. (No ill effects so far incidentally). A horrible wet and windy run this morning, the headwind making running difficult. It was one of those runs where you just grit the teeth and get it over with. Glad to get home and get out of my wet clothes.

Aquarius - I think it's a case of 'been there, done that' re the sawn-off bolt to hold the two halves of the pole together. One advantage of age - you have come across various 'tricks' over the years. Our curtains are there to help retain the warmth in the bedroom - big heavy ones, which probably didn't help with the pole staying in place! Glad to hear you've no after-effects yet from the shingles jab. Well done for gritting your teeth and getting out for a run in the wind and rain. Character building (so they say) - but hope you had a hot shower to warm up afterwards and felt very virtuous for having been out.
The golf guy tells me he hopes the golf shoes will arrive on Friday, or possibly Monday. I just hope they fit and he isn't stuck with them.
We're planning to go to Croome for a walk tomorrow, now my foot seems to be back to 100%. We've picked the right day - supposed to be dry and sunny tomorrow.
Have just been doing some 'admin' - paid for the next year's car tax, processed the bank statement, voted in the NT AGM. Feeling slightly smug now looking at my empty in-tray

Apologies for my lack of posts recently, but I've been seeing the doctor about my indigestion. I won't go into details, but I've had the FIT 💩 test and waiting results, been prescribed Omeprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules, and will be having a blood test on 1st November. On a positive note, when I collected my prescription from the chemist, the pharmacist asked me if I would like a blood pressure test. I agreed and was delighted to be told that it was perfect! I haven't been running, but have walked 13 miles this week. I intend to run tomorrow, but won't do a parkrun. I'm feeling ok, but think the Doctor was applying 'belts and braces' as originally, she just prescribed the Capsules, but phoned me at home later, regarding the additional checks.
Aquarius, I've never had a shingles jab,so I'm surprised that my surgery hasn't contacted me in that respect. I should have mentioned it whilst I was in the surgery.

HS Steve has recently had the same indigestion issue and received the same medication, FIT test and blood tests, all results were fine, and hopefully will be for you too. The tablets were a short term measure and got rid if the indigestion. He hasn't needed them since. Good news about the blood pressure.
As regards the Shingles vaccine I would definitely mention it to your doctor, you should have been contacted about it when you reached 70. iI's something the NHS is really keen for 70+ yr olds to have as it can be a serious illness at our age.

Aquarius, that's amazing that Steve had the same problems as me. I'm glad that the tablets worked for him. My Dr said to take the tablets for a month, and if they hadn't worked, to make another appointment.
I hope that your training is going well. I'll try to start posting again.

Resting today as XC on tomorrow, should be fun in view of the weather forecast. Just bracing myself for a visit from our youngest grandson this afternoon, a real livewire.
Hope your parkrun went well 00. Steve did the Town Moor one today, over 600 runners, no doubt some from Whitley Bay parkrun amongst them.
WtnMel Have the golf shoes arrived yet? Hope you had good weather for your visit to Croome, and Margaret felt well enough to enjoy it.
Look after yourself HS, I hope you get back to full fitness soon.

Thanks 00, I hope this mornings parkrun went well!
Best of luck Aquarius with tomorrow's XC!
I Hope that you have a lovely afternoon with your youngest grandson.
How did Steve get on with the Town Moor parkrun?
Thanks, I'm feeling better today, and awaiting the results of the FIT Test.
I ran a solo 10k fartlek on roads this morning feeling good. I think that I benefitted from the 13 miles of walking which probably brought into play, new muscle etc. I'm running with Giuliana tomorrow, and that will also be on roads, because of the forecasted weather.
The Great South Run has been cancelled, I thought that it would be, as the last mile is always into a strong headwind, and would be even stronger tomorrow 🌬🌧
WtnMel, have you arranged another golf match with Alan?
I've walked 13 miles this week, which I think may have helped me with this mornings run. I walked in my oldest trainers, so if I did more, I would consider buying suitable ones.
