There's been some analysis showing that post-shooting popularity bumps are short-lived, eg Reagan. Let's hope. In the immediate term Trump might benefit because the Biden campaign will wind down out of fear of inflaming the situation and because, well, they're not like the Trumpy types who, I'm sure, will try to exploit and blame it on Biden somehow. Or the deep state. Or Ukraine. Or the Jews. And so on. I wonder if the NRA has expressed its concern? |

Might not be the Republican party that organised it. But might be a republican “patriot” or someone who thinks that Trump isn’t radical enough for them. He got a rough ride at an ultra RW meeting not so long ago for not being RW enough for them. Hope the FBI can trace it back to the Republicans. That would make it really interesting if it’s not interesting enough already. |

Even if it's legitimately traced back to the Right (either a solo wingnut or part of an organised wingnut conspiracy) that will just be proof that it's part of a deep state plot to keep Trump out of the White House and hand power over to those Socialist Pinko Commie Bastards in Biden's team. There's no way this doesn't play out positively for Trump. |

I tend to agree although I hold out a dim hope that a brush with the reaper improves his character and leads him to dial down his bullying and intimidation. But nah, won't happen. |
