Interesting stat about how Labour have gained votes in posh areas and lost votes in more deprived areas

x.com

They didn’t win back the red wall, despite Mandelson sneering all those years ago those voters had nowhere to go they’ve found somewhere now.

And as for the Muslim vote, they’ve haemorrhaged voters to Lib Dem’s and greens as well as pro Gaza independents. Partly due to Gaza but also I think the Islamophobia of the Labour party and also government policy, the hierarchy of racism that exists in Labour. Perhaps some of these seats overlap with deprived areas too (a guess from not having looked at the data).

I don’t know if what worked this time will work in 2029, suppose a lot depends on what happens between now and then.

Trump’s campaign team is much more savvy these days so a relatively hinged response isn’t entirely surprising. Rep convention next week and the crazies will all be on full display.

For all the centrist dad comments about experts - some might say government by cronyism and unelected technocrats is not at all democratic.

I have no problems being a centrist dad, a political moderate for the most part, willing to compromise on many things to achieve the best outcome for the greatest number of people.

I do have a few absolute views, but appreciate they aren't necessarily other people's views. It doesn't make me or others automatically right or wrong.

In fact, I'd take "centrist dad" as a badge of honour.

I don’t see a difference in an unelected foreign secretary like Cameron and these people appointed to the H of L for their expertise really. But time will tell.

Next poll should be first Labour sleaze

No attempt to have an ethical foreign policy these days unlike Blair (after all Israel has the right to deprive civilians of water and power and also slaughter 30,000+ of them)

In fact Labour are happy to partner with fascists but not socialists

I have a fear that this attempted shooting will make Trump worse.

'only god saved me' will translate to 'I'm doing gods work in'

'time to unify the nation ' means 'behind me or else'

The man who's manoeuvred the legal system into giving him carte blanche and has stated he'll be a dictator on day one.

Biden probably needs an escape plan if Trump wins.

He will weaponise the incident like no other; the fact that it doesn't actually fit into his narrative about some deep state activity or conspiracy by the democrats will be glossed over, he'l hero-ise himself.

I clearly don't wish he'd been shot and killed. But his "survival" here doesn't make the world a more secure place, that's for sure.

You're not wrong about "not at all democratic", though cronyism I might take issue with as that needs evidence to suggest that the appointments are less about merit and more about things being jobs for the boys.

It is difficult to balance democratic accountability with expertise in subject areas, but I'd rather see experts appointed in visibly accountable positions (even if that accountability route is through the HoL) than simply appointed to the govt payroll as SPADs etc with no accountability at all.

I know we've lived under a Labour govt now for about 10 days and the world hasn't turned into a socialist utopia just yet, but these are small steps on the way to delivering better government than we've had in the last decade, so surely with a glass half full attitude even you can see that this a direction of travel which is on the whole "better".
