Agreed, Muttley. There ought to be a premium on education, whatever it is you learn. Education should be a preparation for life, not just for work. And on the PPE (Politics/Philosophy/Economics rather than the Covid PPE issue!) it seems to have had a terrible impact on the standard of government we've suffered. |

I think it's only fair to point out that the course attracts people who are intending to go into politics. That's a handicap that the best lecturers in the world might struggle to overcome. However it's also true that it trains people to bullshit plausibly based on a rather superficial level of knowledge. And it doesn't take a genius to predict how that might not turn out well. |

Didn't BoJo do classics rather than PPE? PPE might have helped the chap I reckon.

Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed the Rwanda deportation scheme is "dead and buried", on his first full day as prime minister. The Labour leader said he would end the "gimmick" of deporting migrants arriving in the UK illegally to Rwanda, which was established by the previous Conservative government. Labour campaigned on a manifesto pledge to scrap the scheme, which has already cost around £310m, promising a more effective approach to tackling illegal immigration to replace it. At his first press conference since entering Number 10, Sir Keir told journalists: "The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started." |

Didn't Rwanda say they would give us the money back if the policy was cancelled? |

Nope. I read that it was not recoverable.

I'm sure it'ss been pointed out already, but according to wikipedia, it looks like Starmer has achieved the notable record of the lowest vote share of any UK government for as far back as meaningful records exist (about 1850ish), apart from one brief moment of a minority govt in the 1920s.
