@Pothunter I think @LindsD meant why voters in Bristol Central and Sheffield Hallam are potentially moving away from Labour. It seems to be because of Gaza and climate change policies: theguardian.com |

Labour disgust your neighbour more than the Tories? Wow, just wow. They've done some mental gymnastics to arrive at justification for their openly racist voting intention.

I didn’t look into any great detail, but I guess Sheffield has been LibDem before (Nick Clegg if I remember right) so perhaps just a “correction” back to what it used to be. Bristol Central is predicted to go Green for the first time. This article seems quite a good explanation: thebristolcable.org Basically it suggests that the area is quite left-leaning (having previously been very supportive of Corbyn) and sees the Labour Party as too far right. Gaza is mentioned too, but not as the primary reason. |

It probably won’t surprise you that they were Brexit supporters and vaccine skeptics too. If you were pigeonholing based on socioeconomic and educational background they’d fall squarely into a Labour demographic. They don’t seem to recognise that when the Tories want benefit claimants back into work that it means them! I pushed her on Farage’s support for Putin and she said she agreed with him! Europe and the USA provoked Putin and he was just protecting the Russians in Ukraine from persecution. She tried to get me to watch Oliver Stone’s “Putin Interviews” so I could see how bad Ukraine was. She says that the USA backed a coup to put in a US-friendly government and Ukraine will be indebted to the US forever. She then compared that to the UK being indebted to the US until the 1980s to repay their support in WW2. I pointed out that if it wasn’t for the US we’d be speaking German… Sadly, politics aside we actually get on with them well. Their kids are the same age as ours. As neighbours they are great. We feed their cats when they are away, they keep an eye on our place when we are. |

The badger told him that it was those nasty foreign squirrels that did it - in between mouthfuls of settee.

We get ever closer to the GE. But only two leaflets received (SNP & Labour). No canvassers. No billboards, no posters, no window stickers, etc, anywhere in the burgh.

Election spending, such as leaflets, is capped per constituency. So you can't save money in one constituency to spend it elsewhere. Unless you're breaking electoral law, or haven't got much money / donors to start with ... Canvassing, however, a very different kettle of fish. All parties will focus their attention on the seats they're targetting. |
