Lark - re: NI. Yes correct, although language over here speaks about "Nationalists" and "Unionists" as much as possible, rather than Catholics and Protestants.
I used to live in Saddleworth, and older locals there still bang on about how they used to be in Yorkshire before 1974.

Mr d - border used to run through Toddy town hall.
Must have been difficult with passport control.

Struggling a bit. Can any Yorkshire people on here give me a good reason to hate them (not as individuals, mind, but as representative of all that's wrong with Yorkshire)? This visceral hatred is proving harder to whip up than I'd fancied.

I go on holiday with Explore, KE & Exodus frequently and have met all sorts of Scottish people from different backgrounds and when asked their nationality by any guide, I’ve never heard anyone saying British or from the UK, always Scottish.

Ally-C, that's interesting. I always say I'm British, never English. Like larkim, I see myself as fundamentally a citizen of the UK (and beyond that, of Europe). I do appreciate it's a different matter, though, for someone from a dominant partner in a bloc (dominant by virtue of population, regardless of intent - Enland makes up 84% of the UK's population).

Can't believe my bil took me to a fell race in Yorks Fozzy🤣.
Did Yorks CC check which side of the street people were born on.

My (and I think Lark’s) birthplace hasn’t been in Lancashire since 1974 btw! Doesn’t stop me claiming historical allegiance mind!
