And you're right about my heritage. I still feel I've betrayed it by moving to posh Cheshire.

Although I feel the greatest affinity to the county where I grew up and which educated me for 13 years, I'll never be accepted into the Men of Kent (and can't represent them in athletics) by virtue of where my mother was geographically located when I was pulled out of her undercarriage.
And I've lived in what I consider to be Lincolnshire for almost half my life, but I can't represent Lincs in cross country either, because Ted Heath decided that a narrow strip of Parts of Lindsey needed stapling onto Hull in 1974.

Although I have also developed the required visceral hatred of Yorkies that anyone living in a neighbouring county seems to have.

Great, DeeGee, you can join with us Lancastrians in the forthcoming war. The fixture list has been released, and the first match is at St Albans on 25 May.

County athletics affiliation is stuck in the dark ages isn't it! Old county boundaries, birthplaces, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a handful of niche cases where athletes born and living in a certain combination of places are completely disenfranchised from County representation.

Some fell races have a "local" prize, which I believe is based entirely on residency, which seems like a reasonable way of doing things. But I also joined Scottish Veteran Harriers Club while living in England (and not having lived in Scotland for decades). And wore their vest recently

jda, (and everyone else) if you identify as Scottish, remember it's allegedly legal for the male citizens of York to shoot you on the Sabbath, if you're found on or within the City Walls. Provided said male citizen is using a bow and arrows, and has attended the annual mandatory shooting practice on St George's Field. (Which is now a car park, so unlikely....)
Is that good enough to be one the reasons to hate Yorkshire?
Jealousy because you live in an adjacent county doesn't seem to be sufficient cause to me!

You only need to live in a county for 9 months to represent it...

I don't live in the county of Lincolnshire, SPR. But I live in Lincolnshire. So I can't enter the Lincs championships because apparently I'm East Yorkshire or something.
The only things left in the UK called Humberside are the airport and the Athletics.

And they can't rename the Airport despite their best attempts because the only suitable name is Hull, but that local authority don't own shares in the airport.
