I also can't work out why legislating against further extensions is a good thing. Do they actually want no deal?

I would say the idea is pressure.

Mainly symbolic to show the new supporters that they are serious.
Otherwise a stupid idea that means the already mission impossible to get the FTA agreed by September (so it can be ratified by year end) just got that much harder.
No signs of BoJo pivoting to moderate on his new found majority, looks like we are in for a bumpy ride.

It's ok though, we'll have Brexit come what may.

Isn’t the date for ‘extension/no extension’ end of June in the WA.
In other words if they go beyond end June without agreeing an extension we’re in no deal vs whatever can be agreed at 11:59pm on 31 Dec 2020 territory anyway?

There were 2 extension clauses built in to the current WA I believe - they are being kicked out and replaced with the leave come what may date.
I see the pound is back down to pre-election levels.

It's just posturing of course, playing to the gallery but the gallery will lap it up. Come July, there will either be a deal to ratify or there won't. In the latter case, unless the govt asks for an extension, the negotiations will end. If the govt does ask for an extension, it will have to repeal its own legislation. And end up looking rather foolish as a result. Not that the brexiters will notice.
Since Stander was agreeing that a further extension was likely just a few days ago, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that he is just trolling rather stupidly.

jda - posturing to a *domestic* gallery.
The rest of the world are looking on and seeing a huge position of weakness.

Dont forget though, what Bojo is doing is *exactly* what the people who voted leave and *exactly* what the people who have just given him a majority wanted him to do. As all leavers are in total agreement.
