I don't recall that - I can see how that would be a positive thing though.

What was the fall out from that deegee?

I was also thinking about the MPS/ MSPS/ Councillors thing - a bit different and it rather depends on what they do there. And also on whether maybe they supported the parkrun's development or are running down the local parks.

Drinking coffee and running at the same time, at Gobi's pace, would be a bit messy and an expensive waste.

Re the above, I feel exactly the same about Remembrance commemorations, absolutely nothing to do with parkrun and has become more and more a political football.

I don't remember the MP thing, but there's a difference between inviting your local MP, whatever party they might represent, and inviting representatives of a specific party.
Coldhams Common had several people from the local council recently, but they were responsible for deciding whether the parkrun should be allowed to continue on council land, there was no specific political element to it.

The issue I had with the "invite an MP day" was that our run actually serves a wider community. Geographically, Cleethorpes parkrun is in the blue parliamentary constituency of Cleethorpes, but the parliamentary constituency entirely surrounds the constituency of Great Grimsby, which always elects an MP of a different colour to Cleethorpes, the council who own the land were of the red persuasion also, and the council provided some of the funding and free use of some of the facilities.

A majority of the participants wouldn't have voted for the MP, and I was under pressure from my core team and the community as a whole to also invite the red MP, who is my MP.

Regardless of my own political viewpoint - I vote for neither party - balance would have been welcome in this area.

However, I was encouraged not to invite other local MPs.
