Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

some good meet/greets taking place in the Lakes :-)

@race junkie - good decision not to tackle Blencathra - it's a mountain that always look menacing even when the sun shines!!

Gardening does not fit well with running- although it may have other benefits.

Manages to squeeze in an outing early this morning - 10C at 0710!

Walk/run for 60 min covering 4.65 miles and 130m climb.
Still on 60 sec intervals unlike @Canute who is progressing well but noticeable that my HR rose steadily after 30 min. I ran my big hill twice - the first time HR was 138 max, second time 157!

Knee stiffened up immediately afterwards but a series of stretches and massage helped it to ease off a bit - see what tomorrow brings.

@Torque Steer you are running faster than me. I suspect that your 60 second intervals are more demanding than my 90 second jogs. I am concentrating on high cadence/short stride to minimise impact forces. Although I am not focusing on pace while jogging, in retrospect I estimate from total time and distance that my jogging pace is around 7:30 /km. I have always been good at running slowly 😉

The goal for my current programme is to reach the point where I can jog 5 Km, irrespective of pace. I have been strongly influenced by the training of Ed Whitlock

My longer-term goal is to increase endurance, though I would certainly hope to run quite lot faster than my current jogging pace.

0061 - 1.39 400m for a W85 is amazing! Great pic.

Hilly - nice to get a new age group Parkrun record and then following it up with a good 10 miler.

Solo - great parkrun too.

NZD - nice low heart rate.

Torque Steer/Canute - sounds like you two are progressing nicely.

I did 27.9 km with my group yesterday - nice and cool to start with though got quite hot near the end. Today - dawdle with the dog and my husband - more than the dog wanted to sniff at everything. Lots of new born lambs in Cornwall Park today.

Impressive long run @NZChris.
@Torque Steer & @Canute. Nice steady improvements at similar levels from you both. 60 min covering 4.65 miles and 130m EG is a solid effort TS. Wise to be including that much elevation gain at this stage?
@Solo. Still a great time despite something cutting in over the last km of your run. Blown away though by your almost flat HR over 4.5km+ in your July run, even more so given the up & down course profile. Just on threshold? Mine is much more impacted by gradients and wind (😐), and mostly has an anaerobic uptick as I 'sprint' the last 100 m or so at the end of a parkrun. Perhaps lack of experience on my part? Or just not pushing hard enough through the middle stages!
@Hilly the Barry Island course does indeed look horribly hilly. Not one I would choose! 22:12 impressive on any course, let alone that one.
@PeterFay Well done on defying the weather to walk around Crummock Water. Propper 'tramping' (/hiking) weather. ('tramping' a term used in the UK?)
@Flatlander. Can't match your gardening efforts (though I should be!). Too much else on. Your comment re 'if survive to 85' gave me a bit of a jolt. Suddenly realised I'm now less than 8.5 years off that mark 😓. TS?!😁.

Afraid I didn't live up all the impressive examples above. Chickened out this morning as legs were still stiff after the weekend activities. I (mostly!) like the 'gardening' and hope it does do some good. As TS said though, often doesn't fit well with running.

Gardening and running do not mix NZD

Impressive running over the weekend from Hilly,Solo,NZC, walking from Peter and gardening from Flatlander.

I have run shorter distances but new shoes to test out and working well on Achilles. It really was a leap of faith to switch brands after 8 years but my research paid off :)

Today promises to be dry which is a minor miracle.

Kathleen the 85 year old started running in her 50s. Her coach is her husband. He was a coach at our club where they met.
TS and Canute good to read your strategies and progress back to running.
Solo that's a very impressive 5k time, only beaten by another lady who is clearly exceptional.
@PeterFay sorry you walks in the Lakes are being ruined by miserable weather Peter. I managed to miss the worst of the rain on Sunday and stuck to the tarmac railway path to Threlkeld. I got the planned 20 miler done.
How much do you have left of your holiday hilly? I'm guessing you might travel back soon for the new term.

That is some heavy duty gardening Flatlander. The leaves are just starting to fall in the UK so lots of raking and tidying over the next few weeks. We have a nice crop of rhubarb so the last batch of jam is also due to get made.
Hope you are right about the weather Welshpoppy. I'm hoping for a bike ride later today. Then a local 10k race tomorrow evening which is more like a club time trial.

Thanks for the well done for the parkrun. All recorded below if you fancy a watch. 😁

0061 - that's impressive for Kathleen to be running so well after all those years. Has she dropped down distance over the years?

Our holiday ends today and we're heading back to sunny Yorkshire. 🌞 Mid Cheshire 5k on Friday where I'm hoping to do the vest proud. Barry Island parkrun is about a minute slower than flat and conditions weren't good so fingers crossed... Then doing a Grim Up North 20 miler on Sunday just to get a few marathon paced miles. Yes, then new term on Monday. 😒

EP - good to know your new shoes are working!

NZD - gardening does my back in! 😅

NZC - sounds a nice social outing. Love the image of new born lambs. 🙂

Too much to comment on!

Slight progress here in that I ran, very slowly, four times 30 seconds off one minute without reaction either at the time or afterwards.

In the past when I have had other serious injuries I have used an anti-gravitational treadmill; however, I had a choice of two but one has been removed due to the expense of maintaining it and the second is out of use due to the expense of repairing it! I can't recommend them highly enough but at £100k I am not in a position to buy my own!

Wordle in three today, four yesterday.

Off to aqua jog shortly.

@NZChris I thought I would have a look at the Fetch FV60 record and see this lady still holds it @NZC 😉
I am guessing this is you??

@OO61 she is incredible at the age of 51 and very often wins the overall ladies race. Not seen much of her this year though with the runners curses of injury and sickness.

@NZD the second graph was from the County Champs 5k when I was able to push hard all the way and is what I would expect to see,for me, in a 5 km race. I am guessing from what you are saying you could probably run faster 😊

Brilliant news on the shoes @Welshpoppy ! I am looking for a replacement for my daily shoes at the moment and not having much luck. I keep checking eBay though just in case someone is discarding some of my old ones.

Very excited to see your 5 k result @Hilly ! Are you having a mini taper?

Any progress is good @alehouse

alehouse - that's good news! I've got a home treadmill but sure what an anti-gravitational one is. Will have a look...

Solo-.I'm telling myself I should but I'm marathon training. I'm still thinking about it. Will do 5 easy today before leaving Wales then make a decision...😁
