@Torque Steer sounds like good progress with your walk/run sessions. Your HR indicates that you are running somewhat faster than I am jogging in my jog/walk sessions. @Solo , good to hear that RHR has been settling. That bodes well for the remaining runs of the season @alehouse good progress. It is encouraging that the breathing became easier in the second half of you recent session. @NZD good luck with your 10K. I hope that the the ‘mostly flat’ course presents few challenges @Welshpoppy it s great that the Achilles is behaving well. I have now done two sessions including a 30 minute jog segment. My knee continues to be happy. One more similar jogging session before I begin further cautious increases on duration of jog segments next week. |

I am very lucky as my daughter lives in Key West and I usual visit during the winter months @alehouse I did wonder whether you were going to try and mix them together to get your fitness back quicker. @NZD as it is your first 10k maybe you will surprise yourself ☺️but pb here you come! @Torque Steer I love stats 😎 and you are progressing nicely. Hopefully you will get your appetite back soon but the weight loss is a plus. @Canute all sounds very optimistic @Welshpoppy does that mean the achilles has settled again? Pleased to say RHR is back to normal 😁🎉 An easy run later in 20 degrees sunshine! as legs much better today. Hope the knee settles soon @OO61 but good you are still able to swim. |

Opposite weather here, @Solo : torrential rain all day. Builders rained off! The aim is to gradually increase the longer part of my runs, so tomorrow will be something like 3, 14 or 15, 2 or 3 (minutes of course!). Subject to the legs being ok after this evening's workout. Physio is very keen for me to build strength in the legs. Caution is key: I've been patient since February so not going to spoil things by upping things too quickly. |

@alehouse - that's very good progress, and you are quite right about caution, the muscle wastage over that extended period of time, and the aerobic performance deterioration, is going to be extensive Fingers crossed for you:-) @Canute - thanks - I never use the word jog as it brings back derogatory comments, along with fun runner, from the 80's used to describe us newly fledged runners. It did inspire me to take many scalps in races I am not trying to run fast, it's just my natural gait, and the higher HR is a reflection of my lack of aerobic fitness, but like alehouse, it will take time. Your longer runs of 30 min are very encouraging, as is you rlack of knee trouble resulting from them - great progress - just don't call them jogs :-)! Well after a night of torrential rain it was clear, mild and bright as I went out for a repeat 1min walk/3 min run which I did for 40 min covering 3.25 miles with HR 131/146, so eking out another 2 intervals for only a marginal overall HR increase over yesterday - and just for @NZD I did 32m of climb as well on my "flat" route:-) Knee was okay when moving but stiffened up after, but my scheduled exercises later on will no doubt ease it off a bit. The latest variant is a one legged knee dip with the raised foot extended to the front, side and rear - the sideways element does cause some discomfort as the lateral support tissues become fully engaged!! |

wordle in four. @Solo good to hear your RHR is back to normal - your outside temperatures are definitely not normal! Your legs deserve a rest before anything too strenuous |

@Velociraptor I normally use "shamble" or "shuffle" to describe my less athletic endeavors - maybe I should be still using them!! |

@Torque Steer As I use the terms running and jogging, running involves getting airborne, while jogging does not. Impact forces increase markedly as airborne time increases. For me, the action that drives the transition from jogging to running is consciously driving the arm down and back as I lift off from stance, though it is a whole-body action and the crucial part is the triple extension of the hip, knee and ankle. I will continue jogging for the time being. I am still uncertain regarding my future as a runner.

Beautiful weather here for running: about 15 degrees, barely any breeze and bright sunshine; just a shame I can't take full advantage of the conditions. However it is good to be running again! So, 2/16/2 minutes with short walk breaks, continuing to up the "long" run. Although it is definitely a shuffle: my style has changed somewhat, perhaps just a sign of unfitness. Hamstrings were both a little tight towards the end, but that is hopefully from yesterday evening's stretching and strengthening. Wordle in phew. |
