I seem to remember Bank Holidays being the opportunity for fights between Mods and Rockers, and before that, Teddy Boys and ... other Teddy Boys? I depend on my memory of Daily Mirror headlines for much of my childhood current affairs knowledge so it might be a bit hazy

I’ve got a work colleague who, well into his fifties, still rides his Lambretta scooter to seaside rallies with others like minded, most bank holidays. I don’t think any scrapping goes on these days, but there is plenty of tea drunk.

Yes LazyD..the media..even then..were doing a good job of finding the hot spots for bad news! Mods and Rockers did clash at a couple of places on the South Coast but not in many, if any, other places. I remember because I had a Lambretta which sort of "made you a mod" when in fact it was a simply a mode of transport. There were Teddy Boys (Teds) knocking around prior to that and a scattering of Beatnicks who were something more like Hippies... who properly emerged in the UK as the sixties faded(I was there!) after their growth (pun intended re hair!) on the East Coast of the U.S. I'm sure you needed to know that!

I was at Brighton, that year back in the sixties, when there was that battle between the mods and rockers. I was a mod in those days and was very proud of my "college boy haircut."
The Rolling Stones performed at the St Mary Stadium in Southampton last night. I didn't attend,as I prefer to remember how they were in their prime. I first saw them when they were unknown, when they turned up at the Thames Hotel Hampton Court, as support act to Big Pete Deucher, the resident "Blues Man." Halcyon days indeed!

Good thing you didn't stay in another pub as 'the support band are bound to be cr@p' hillstrider. I'm sure a few have done that over the years with bands who went on to be legends.

Great to have seen a band like the Stones before they became "big". They played as the band/group of the moment in Cardiff on a "cinema stage" in the early sixties; they're playing here in July but the tickets I saw were a silly price at nearly a £100 ! At that price, no thanks but I reckon they still do an impressive show.

I saw them at Twickenham a while back and they were great.

Runnyeyes, did you grow up in Leicester? I did, and had a dentist called Mr. Savage, and he lived up to his name sufficiently that on one visit I point-blank refused to open my mouth. After which my family found a different dentist.

I've given up going to music concerts. After the last couple (around three years ago) decided I'd had enough of getting annoyed at not being able to see anything except scores of twats with their arms in the air. No doubt they were busy trying to record the concert on their phone or taking selfies to post on Facebook etc. I questioned why they bothered going to the concert in the first place if they were going to spend all their time recording shaky footage or pressing their nose to their phone posting self-indulgent "look what a great time I'm having" posts instead of actually enjoying the music. It means I miss out on the concert experience but at least my blood pressure stays normal

I’m with you WtnMel. Many people are going through life watching it through a screen, rather than creating memories.
