Plus 1. The last major gig I went to was The Who at the NEC in Birmingham. After about 20 minutes of having my ears blasted (but in fairness from a reasonably positioned seat), I just had an overwhelming desire to be at home in a comfy chair with a cup of coffee. I did stay until the end though!
phidip, Cornbury was a great festival for a sit back and chill atmosphere. I’ve not been to the newer venue but I believe it still has that vibe. (Am I allowed to say “vibe” at my age?)
Last gig I went to (the dead south) was standing and very frustrating - all the people in front were holding their phones above their heads filming the band, our view was very limited. Good atmosphere though.
I enjoyed some moshing at the Stranglers recently. Most of the audience was my age or older so my level of fitness was quite handy in surviving the moshpit.
Loved it Sharkie..me to a tee too! Live gigs are not my thing although I've been playing guitar (including electric) and still do every day, for fifty years or more. That phone filming behaviour is something the world is now stuck with. Ugh!! I made the same stupid mistake when I went to watch a road race and used my phone to film the leaders as they went by (including Mo!) and , in a nutshell, didn't experience or see it properly at all; and the film was pointless!
The most recent gigs I have been to, there has been a lot less "phones in the air" stuff. Although I'll admit to sometimes having enjoyed clips of gigs I have been to (or indeed, other gigs) on T'ube.
(This is from a concert I attended. The atmosphere in the hall during this song was ... otherworldy. I've just watched it again and I felt as if I had stopped breathing.)
