Thanks, I've signed up for that. There's about 25-30 miles in each direction between my home and the next nearest major settlement that can be reached by train, and I fancy running to each of them in time, so if I can put those labours to good use, I'd be happy to.

Excellent. I've done loads of runs between places. Nottingham to Leicester, Leicester to Loughborough, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough, Tamworth, Nuneaton, Coventry.

If anyone is County Durham based/visiting then you can access old Ordnance Survey maps for free on the County Record Office website (http://www.durhamrecordoffice.org.uk/article/10532/Search-Interactive-Maps). As someone who is relatively new to the county I find it really interesting looking at where I have run/walked/cycled since there were so many collieries and other industrial sites which have all vanished. Often at first glance the remnants appear natural (well... some of the time. The very orange water from one culvert on a regular route is a give away!). Don't know if other counties do the same? |

Surrey has an interactive map going fine-scale to the point where each rail of railway lines is shown, but not manhole covers or trees. Elevations are shown to 10 cm.

Cornwall CC has a pretty good interactive map. https://map.cornwall.gov.uk/website/ccmap/?zoomlevel=1&xcoord=162690&ycoord=64380&wsName=ccmap&layerName= It is possible to double link this map with the 100 year old ordnance survey side by side (so moving on one moves the other), which is pretty great, but I've lost the link on how to do that now. |

I'm thinking of getting an framed old map of a local area as a present for someone. I've obviously Googled but if there are any particular recommendations of anyone that provides this service, it'd be good to read them.
