Oh-oh another thread to add to watch list.
Most of my old 1:50,000 and very old 1 inch maps are confined to the loft. The IGN maps with various french and belgian cycle race routes are just to hand as they are being run this month so checking out where they take place as I watch.
Old continental WRC rally routes are on Press Road books with Michelin black and white map prints so we knew where to follow the rally cars.

I have just been reading the map of the route for the Circuit of Ireland Rally of 1982 while having a cuppa. I didn't know I had this and found it while moving some crap around looking for something else. R of I maps from 1982 are rubbish by comparison to OS maps of the same age!

Oh great stuff. I've stuck that/those in the sidebar and reorganised it a bit - so that there's a 'historical' section (though WheresThePath could also be included there)

um
I've done all the checks, and restarted my phone a few times. I tried it today outside.

Started at 180 degrees wrong, and after wving it around few times, it became quite random.

So I have decided never to trust it - well, as a compass.

Don't think I'd every reply on one as a compass either

I have seen so many folk over the last few years with phone in one hand and compass in the other, going in totally the wrong direction
