Meglet
Unwind a small length of thread and lay it across the fabric and see which you prefer.

What Meglet said. I often think I know which thread I’m using until I do that and then I change my mind

I’ve been doing my first fairisle sweater over the last 2 months. I did chose a tricky one..so I actually kicked off with the sleeves and even they took so much concentration I had to give myself permission to quit if I wasn’t enjoying it by the end of sleeve one.

Well 2 sleeves done, and doing well on the body.

hi, im new to this thread and just wanted a little advice/recommendation. Im looking for a pattern for a mens polo neck jumper that son wants me to knit for him. He wants me to put a design on it of his own, and wants it to be reasonable thick. Any suggestions for the basic pattern, Im thinking possibly an aran weight wool??

You could try something like raglano - it’s a raglan sweater that you plug your gauge into and it generates the numbers for the pattern. If you did a provisional cast on you could knit the sweater top down then knit the neckline stitches up as high as you like

I’ve used it to knit both a delicate laceweight silk top and a warm Aran sweater
