I have a very traditional sewing box, similar to what my mum had when I was growing up, with an upper tray split into compartments. I keep hand needles, various scissors, pins, tape measure, stitch ripper, chalk in it. Another small crate for things like zips, piping cord, bias binding, ribbon, animal eyes, interfacing, elastic (with loose things bagged up in freezer bags to make it all a bit more organised). Fabric is stored in crates too, in a cupboard under a bookshelf. One day I'll have a craft room...

The only other kind of sewing box I've had was a wooden cantilevered type of thing; it was second hand and a bit wobbly and didn't last very long but if I was buying a new one again I'd probably go for one of those.

My mom had one of those sewing boxes sallykate. It had all sorts of things in it!! I remember those wooden cantilever type boxes - I always liked the looks of those but would probably lose things in it by forgetting where I'd put stuff!! ;)

I have my grandmother's old teak sewing box. I use it mostly as a surface. It still has a lot of her things in it - tiny scissors, tatting shuttles and suchlike.
