Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Testing out a couple of mask patterns, the red spotty one is a pleated rectangle one, the other is a one piece shaped one with nose and chin darts. I like the shaped ones better. What is everyone using as 'wire' across the nose? I opened up a paper clip, but wondered if there was something better.

I’ve used rubber-covered garden wire but felt like I should cover it in fabric too, which was time consuming. Large pipe cleaners are my next hope, doubled up.

I don't think I have any pipe cleaners. I've sewn on a little channel for whatever I use to slide it through and then remove for washing for ease. I tried using a kirby grip, but it was too rigid and not easy to shape. I might have to raid the school cupboard (with permission of course :))

I resorted to buying some because I have quite a few to do. The larger “bun” grips might work well - the kind that are larger and looser than Kirby grips, if you know what I mean?

Yes I do. I don't have any of them though. I don't have much here, although grid has soldering wire stuff, I'm not sure of its safety in a face covering.

I’ve got some brass wire from work! But I did find some covered garden ties this week, or if they still exist those wire bag ties.

Our DT cupboard had some wire in it, I don't know exactly what type it is, but it's bendy and thin enough, so I've got some to try. Pipe cleaners were in very short supply. I figured if it's suitable for use with children it can't be too bad!

Love the pineapples KatieB. I used pipe cleaners in my masks with a channel so they can be removed when washing but still steam up my specs a bit.

nice Lizzie :)

I can't get my machine to work :( so I shall be hand sewing masks.

Which is the best pattern for the shaped ones? please - there are loads of different ones.

(We do have access to medical ones as Eldest was provided with loads by the company he works for, but I would feel too self-conscious wearing them and have kept some just for mum and the in-laws to wear if they have to go anywhere)
