If it’s old it may need oiling. Check the manual, you may be able to find one online for your model.

Yes that’s a tension thing. Turn the tension up.

Maybe also check the bobbin is running smoothly. I don’t know how or if you can adjust bobbin tension.

Thanks so much for all your help...I will play with the tension rings later

It is a lovely manual..which mum in law kept with the machine so I still have..but seeing the diagrams on line is a revelation...I can actually see the details now.

No ‘pinch screen to enlarge’ in 1950s printing technology.

So thanks for that link P.

You might have to change the bottom tension too, to loosen it. Check whether you can pull the thread with the presser foot down. You should be able to relatively easily, though there will be a bit of resistance (i.e. tension!). If it's really difficult then it's too tight. Ideally the upper tension will be about the middle of its range for normal sewing.

Does anybody else have a bag of random presser foots that you don’t know what they’re for?
Just spent ages looking for a specific foot to discover it was in the machine bobbin box all along!

I only have three presser feet - one "normal", one for buttons and one for zips. Maybe a quilting one too but that lives elsewhere.

Could do with more bobbins but my machine doesn't take standard ones and I left it to late to go to the closest sewing machine shop.
