Drell - great advise there.

HP - well done on the 2 job offers, can't offer anything in the way of advice but I'm sure whatever you decide will work for you.

Sorry to hear that people are going through such bad times in work that resigning is the only option, poor work practices, and forgetting that staff are people and not just another resource seems rather too common.

I'm waiting for some info from one which might help with the decision making process.

Just stumbled across this thread. I started looking for new jobs earlier this year as I wasn't happy in my current role, mainly as I had been 'pushed' into it due to lots of management changes and I also didn't get on or like working for my new manager who basically didn't want to manage people. he had seconded me to another area in the 2 months before I left.

I was offered a new job (50 miles from home) which I took and I left my old job at the start of May, starting my new job on the following monday.

2 days later I quit the new job as the travel was just too much and I could not see it being sustainable in the long run. Hubby and I discussed it before I did and agreed we would cope for a short while monetary wise.

Started looking in earnest for a new job closer to home and in the meantime my old company found out I was on the market and offered me some contract work whilst I look for something else (very good of them and at least I didn't leave on bad terms). I had a number of interviews for a couple of jobs (two each) and got offered one. Not the one that I wanted. I have accepted it and am due to start on 7th July. My contract with my old company ends this friday.

Yesterday a new role opened up in my old company (where I am currently on contract) which is what I would like to do, so I submitted my CV. The closing date is next Tuesday and they have only opened to internal candidates.

I leave friday and am away in Yorkshire all next week and start my new job the following monday. If my old company want to interview me then that is great but it causes a bit of a dilemma around when i could do it (I could come back for a day from Yorkshire but not sure how easily I could get time off from the new job when I've just started).

The role in my old company is the same role as the new one I've taken but it pays quite a bit more and it's a familiar company etc.....

Bit of a dilemma over this to be honest. I am not entirely convinced the job I have taken is what I want (company wise) but I also have no guarantees of getting the role here. It's not a role that very many people could do in the company as need specific skill set and the fact they have only advertised internally suggests to me that there was probably somebody in mind for the role (and I've probably now put a kaibosh on them getting it outright ;-) ).

Anj I think you re thinking too far ahead. Get the interview first, go to it and see how it goes. If you get an offer go from there. You can always hand in the notice on the new place and go back if you have already started.

Dont worry about the person you think the role is for: that person could be you!

I am perilously close to opening a poll to let fetchland make my decision for me.

Anj - I agree with curly. Apply and see what happens. Make a decision if and when you have to (or let fetch land do it for you)

Finally had my phone interview today. Bloody nerve racking not having the person there, but I think it went well. There are just two candidates and I should find out today. I applied because it close to home and starts asap, but actually the job sounds really interesting. Tons of problem solving and sorting out processes. Loads of autonomy (reporting line goes to Europe rather than UK)...

Now I want it what is the betting I don't get it ;)

*Anj* it appears you are in a good position. 1st week in a new job is usually about finding your feet. It shouldn't be a problem to take some time off for an interview. Good luck

Cheers DT, I always wonder if it's a bit cheeky to be asking for time off when you've just started, but I guess sometimes 'things' happen. If I needed it off, i would probably only require a 1/2 day anyway.

Like Curly said though, I am thinking a bit too far ahead as I've not even been asked to an interview yet

Any decision HP?

I have been offered the job! Start next Thurs but need to have a phone call with head of sales before I start. I also have an interview for a different job (more in my field but further commute) next Mon. Could get dicey if offered that too, but I think right now proximity wins... We shall see what the money is for the other one ;)
