Mind, I have been slacking somewhat lately in gaining more self employment... I am enjoying 'semi-retirement' too much :-o

Haha well with how busy I'll be with a holiday, a half marathon and a 12 hour trail race between now and Sept, I might have to! :)

There's HR people here, right? Just a bit of advice, please.

Mate of mine's just been given an increment which has required him to move to a different pay scale and got a new contract. He was basically told he was getting a payrise, moving to the leaders payscale. He thought his Conditions would be the same, but all new contracts issued by the employer have a less generous sickness benefit, so he's got caught.

Should he have really been told of this, as it's a fundamental change in his conditions? We've all signed newish contracts recently but as a result of being Tuped our conditions haven't changed.

Likewise, should I get a payrise - on the same scale as currently - might that essentially be regarded as a new contract and cause the loss of my sickness benefit (that I've never used)

DG Yes he should certainly have been told about this. Moving to a different payscale does not change the fundamental contract. They need to offer him some form of compensation if he is to receive lesser sickness benefits.

Hello folks, thought I'd look into this thread as I am currently looking for a new job and finding it a bit tough, not much going in my area just now and not getting far with those I do get interviews for. How have other on the thread been getting on finding jobs? Is it a similar case everywhere?

I had an interview on Wednesday, but I'm not sure how it went. The interview itself was fine, but I got the feeling (again) that they were looking for someone a bit less experienced (aka cheaper). Not expecting to hear anything before next week, so trying to put it out of my mind.

I had an interview on Wed too. They said we'd hear soon but I think if I had got it I wouyld have heard by now as I think they were only interviewing on Wed and it was a pretty small and informal place. Its kind of made me feel a bit down but hard to know until they get in touch.

Good luck, I hope that you get some positive news YP

I had a couple of knock-backs when I started looking a couple of months ago. Dents your ego a bit. Like YP, I suspect I'm over-experienced (and probably under-qualified on account of not having a degree). I stopped looking for the summer holidays, choosing to spend my time with the family. Need to get back on the horse now.

Yeah i'm the opposite, qualified but not enough experience in what I want to do. Hopefully you can find something soon.
