Exactly that, Muttley. No reason to do r18 if it really doesn't work for you. I've found that my easy rate has dropped as I got better at getting "good" length on my stroke but I've also found that unless I'm really in good rowing shape I'm struggling to keep my HR down low enough for UT2/Zone 2 work at anything higher than r18!

Yes, Fenners-Reborn, I have a bit of a pause at the end of the drive after the "arms away". It's momentary but yes, I stop moving before moving back along the slide to the catch.

I also take my time on that recovery phase because (brace yourself for a rowing cliche) it's called "recovery" for a reason. You can get 2 seconds of every 3 where you're not actually doing any work if you get the timing right at r18 or r20.

Have a look at this one, Fenners. It's a lot about mindset and thinking about what you're doing and why. Shane puts it pretty well in this clip.

20spm is quite easy to master because it's a stroke every 3 seconds, so just drive every third second. For 18spm Rowalong videos are handy to row along with until you get used to it

Glad you're starting to feel better Nellers!

I think I'm going to have to spend some time with those videos - I really struggle to row as low as r24, never mind 18 or 20!!!
