Aye, 30 to 31 is as high as I can go without it becoming just a mad thrash with all pretence of technique thrown overboard.

Nellers - yes, terrifying! It looked so smooth and controlled, though the crew hitting 46 towards the end were starting to look a bit frantic.

Not sure how metres per stroke compares between the erg and on water, but they seemed to average about 8m per stroke. I think I expected that to be higher.

When they increase the rate the boat has less time to “run” and the distance per stroke/efficiency suffers but if you can put enough into each of those faster strokes you still go faster.

I guess if you’re putting as much force into every stroke at 36 there’s only one way to go faster, but Ben if there’s some lost efficiency.

Hmmm. I thought it time to rev the engine so keyed in 8 x 500 metres 2 mins rest, planning to do them at 2k pace. Overcooked the first four, struggled on the next two, bailed out shortly into the seventh. Note to self: do it right next time.

Well done going for it, mate. Pacing near the top end of your range is always hard. No shame in keeping your powder dry for the next battle.

I was at the other extreme. 5 x 15 minutes @ r18, keeping HR below 144 in theory. Mostly managed the HR and clocked 17km in total including the 1 minute rest easy metres. Longest I've rowed in one session in an awfully long time.

Thank you Sir! I can confirm that lots of rowing does not necessarily lead to fast rowing ...

This morning's RowAlong Randomizer gave me 60 minutes with varying intervals, which is largely at 18 spm but has sets of 30-second bursts at 24 and 30 spm and two 10-minute stretches at 26 spm. The second of those towards the end bites the quads a little :-)

Had to pause and restart from 10 minutes in after having to reset the headphone connection, but otherwise a satisfyingly sweaty session.
