Thanks Craggy. The last 10 years I have been doing running and triathlon so my training is all endurance. Given I am a complete beginner at indoor rowing, I assume I am currently suited to the longer distances. I quite fancy the BRIC. However I think it's probably a bit too soon to bother, except maybe for the experience. It says lightweight is <75kg on the website, I expected it to be 72.5. I am currently at my fattest for a long time at 77kg but I've dipped under 70 this year when marathon training. |

Penultimate session of PP week 1 today, 5,000+ hard, I hadn't read the detailed notes about pacing so I did 2k warm up easy, 5k hard in 18:26 and then 3k easy cool down. HR averaged the lower end of a tempo run (170bpm) but it feels harder. I wouldn't fancy racing 5k, I think I am more suited to shorter distances, maybe it'll come as I build up some experience on this thing. |

It says lightweight is <75kg on the website, I expected it to be 72.5. I think the limit has always been a bit higher for indoor rowing to allow for the growth of your "winter warmers" (indoor rowing being traditionally a winter pastime). |

That's shifting for a 5k, nice work! November's c2ctc is a straight 10k. I might fancy a go at that.

Annoyingly, my weight is consistently 75 kg, give or take one either side. Or 11st 11lb in the old money that I prefer. I would like to reclassify as lwt but not until I can get to a stable 11st 7 or 8lb to allow for daily variations. 11st 9lb this morning. |

Foppotee Very envious of those times !! Nicely done! Looking back when I was a comparable age and 74kg I rowed 18:27 for 5km and rowed 6:52 for the 2km. I peaked at 17:54 for 5km and rowed a 6:48.0 at BRIC of the back of it. I suspect you should manage better as you’re only just hitting the specific 2km training and Pete was training me for 5 months on a pretty personalised scheme. Looking forward to seeing how far you take it. My plan is BRIC next year and 6:59 mins as a 61 year old light weight. It’s looking like it may be harder than I first thought ! |

Having fallen off the Beginners PP at my usual halfway point, my policy now is to take random RowAlong workouts in the sequence low-mid-low-mid-low-high intensity and see how I get on. This morning was mid intensity, 30 minutes no rests, 4 mins each at 20-22-24-26-24-22-20 spm and final 2 mins at 28 spm all out. Yeah, that was a good session! |

Half an hour flies by. Add a decent warmup and cooldown and that's 10k done.

Thanks Jef, those are some decent times on your CV. I'll do my best to prove you right about my future progress. It's hard to know how much one can improve in a sport I don't really understand yet. Nice session Muttley. Steady 10k yesterday, think I found some technical improvements which made it easier and faster. Rest day today so only 2,000m easy warm up before a bit of gym work. |
