Ah yes, the ageing body and the mind that can't accept the fact ... I know it well, and my chassis was built just over 60 years ago. But what really used to irk me was that the older my age category, the further down it I was in races, and usually further down than in the general field. Whenever I go "up" to a new category, I find it full of blokes near the top end of it but turning in performances faster than mine in my pomp, a good 20+ years ago. Sometimes life is so unfair ...

Have been struggling a bit with motivation this week so decided to try one of the Zoomergos (Zoomergos.com) sessions Pothunter mentioned on the previous page. It was a tabata session (4 x 20s hard, 10s light for 4 mins at 20/22/24/26 s/m with 4 mins 'recovery' at the same s/r in between).

It also included a warm-up and cool-down where he constructed (or deconstructed) the stroke, starting from arms only up to full stroke. I'll definitely be trying that again, especially before a hard session.

I'm planning to do a few more of these, if only to pick up a few ideas for more varied sessions and get me back into the habit of pushing myself a bit harder.

14 months.. clearly my hand didn't get better quickly after the op so never went back to rowing. I've been running / cycling for a year now BUT again injured running so now with the hand all better I dusted off the rower and have had a month back on it , low rate, longish stuff strapless.

..and rediscovered my love for the thing !

Going to spend a bit of time reading back to find out what you've all been up to during this weird year.

Hello and welcome back Jef! We've all had some ups and downs in your absence, I think, but most of us are still giving it some on the rower. Glad you're back with us. Sorry it's due to injury.

Hi Nellers. Really should not have left it alone in the first place. Very little else is so good for all round fitness.

Morning all. And welcome back to Jef. Seconding the comments about pity it's due to injury. But the rower does have remarkable healing properties!

Just a steady 10,000 today. Interesting how my time over this distance to a capped heart rate varies. This morning I was about 40 metres and 15 seconds ahead of myself from last time, at a marginally lower average hr.

Hi Muttley. Thanks.

Re heart rate. . it can vary quite a bit depending on how well sleep and recovered you are. Clearly you were in a better place this morning ! ( also.. less coffee ? That pushes me up a couple beats )
