Nice session Craggy. Well done.

I did a slowish Half Mara row this morning. I'm trying to get myself more used to those longer steady state sessions a bit more, given that time is one thing I seem to have a bit of at the mo. Knackered now though.

The thing about those 500m reps in the P Plan is the 3 and a half minutes of recovery -- if you're getting close to twice the time for recovery as for the effort I think the idea is to properly hammer it, eyeballs out!

A big sesh by my standards today: 4 x 15 minutes, each with 7 mins at notional 5k pace and 8 at notional marathon (currently 2:10-ish and 2:20-ish). Interestingly, for each rep I turned in almost identical average and peak heart rates for the 7 and 8 minute phases. Not sure what that means, if anything. With warmup, just shy of 14,500 metres.

Yes 3:30 are long recoveries, so you're right the idea is to hammer them. I've barely done anything faster than 2:05 all year so sub 1:50 was a shock to the system and I was certainly grateful for the long rests.

That's a good session Muttley, 28 min of 5k work with marathon pace in-between is going some, did you have rests after each 15 min? Think the fact your heart rate was stable throughout the 60 mins shows you're in fine shape!

I'm reintroducing low rate work, so started with 3 x 2500m/90r @r19, it was supposed to be rate 18 but each rep came up at r19. I was pleased I put a couple of rests in there as my sugar levels dropped during the second rep, and 90 secs rest was just enough time to grab a couple of biscuits, I felt fine after that 👍

4 minutes rest between the reps, Craggy. Enough time to reset the heart rate, wipe down, grab some water. I too sometimes feel a sugar drop and my favoured way of dealing with it is jelly babies -- but I dare not have a bag in the house, it won't survive till I next climb on the erg.

Nice sesh, by the way. Lower rate work sounds easy but it isn't!

Nice sessions, all. Great to see the variety of approaches from the different plans.

Glad you managed to keep some training going through the disaster with your erg, Craggy. That’s pretty impressive service from C2.

I’m slowly getting back into it. Before getting ill the plan was to complete the beginner’s Pete Plan with a few more shorter TTS along the way and then have a go at a HM over the summer. Current thinking is to slowly increase distance, reintroduce some reps and then move straight on to the HM stuff. Can anyone recommend a good training plan for a first HM?

CW, I'm not aware of any dedicated half mara programmes (open to correction if wrong) but you could take the Eddie Fletcher marathon plan and adapt it. I'm following it and tailoring to my own needs, ie, doing all the workouts but not necessarily on the same day.

(A bit like Eric Morecambe, who was playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the correct order ... you need to be of a certain age ...)

Thanks, Muttley. I’ll take a look at that plan in more detail. I like the sound of some of the sessions you’ve been doing, but would definitely reduce the volume.

[Great sketch, btw.]
