Every cloud, Craggy. I didn't try to get Ergworld working tonight. I did 4 x 10 minute stroke rate ladders (4/3/2/1 minutes at 16/18/20/22 rates). Surprisingly hard work given the low rate for the bulk of it. Good fun though. |

Hi everyone, I'm new to indoor rowing and pretty hopeless at it. Can't seem to switch my legs on so it's just arms frantically back and forth which I know is wrong. Any tips you could give me would really be appreciated. I'm in awe of all your 2km times. It takes me over 10 minutes! I've messaged Nellers as well for advice so don't be surprised to see a random message from someone you've only met a couple of times Nellers. Thank you. I'm hoping rowing is going to come in really handy as a form of exercise as we're confined indoors for most of the day. |

Hello DeaJay, and lovely to have you join us. Everyone is hopeless until they learn not to be, and that learning is the fun of most things. My first time on the rower I couldn't keep going for 2km, and the first time I did took me nearly 10 minutes, and that despite having slightly longer levers than I remember you having from that St Neots Half.;-) Rowing is a brilliant way to get some cardio and strength work done and it's particularly ideal if you've got an erg at home in the current situation. I would say that there's a reason most rowers at the Olympics are the tall side of 6 foot but that doesn't really matter if you're just after a good workout does it? I've sent you some links on FB to YouTube clips from Dark Horse and Training Tall who are usually my go-to for tutorials and technique. They also do some good beginner follow-along workout sessions which you might like. The main thing to keep in mind is the sequence is legs-back-arms, arms-back-legs, and that the bit between the pulling bits of the stroke is called "The Recovery" for a reason. Feel free to ask any more questions as they come up. There are people on here with much more real world knowledge and experience than I've gathered off YouTube. |

tennesseeindoorrowing.com Sorry guys, but I just found out about this event/ Chattanooga Rowing are running a Covid19 Quarantine Ergatta. To enter you need to submit a 500m and a 5km time by close of play tomorrow. It's a deadline I won't be hitting but if anyone has a time you've done for those distances and want to submit them go for it. The idea is that those times put you into a second round race and so on through to a virtual final. It sounds great and I wish I'd seen it earlier and could get involved. Hope you're all doing alright out there, or in there as the case probably is by now. |

Welcome to the thread DeaJay. It really is handy at the moment. I am recovering from injury, so it has kept me off of my feet, but still moving. My wife has just disappeared into the shed for her first row. This is her second week WFH, so it must be getting to her. She never rows. I am resisting the urge to coach any technique...that may have to wait a few days |

Thank you Nellers and Sinj. I'll take a look at those links tonight and give it a go tomorrow. One thing I meant to ask is that I find myself rocking backwards and forwards on my feet as I row. I know I'm not supposed to go so far forward that my shoe heels lift up but is it ok if my heels lift slightly in my shoes. Or maybe I'm not strapping my feet in properly?? |
