I had a look at the Asensei app but you need a PM5. I only have a PM4.

Good day all. Declaring 10,000 metres steady, hr capped at 140 (UT1 ceiling), finished 3 seconds quicker than last time at hr a couple of beats higher but within the limits.
This one is getting tough and 10k is as much as I want to do in one go. The gains are increasingly incremental. I have to psyche myself up for it, but having done it I feel good!

Nice work Muttley. I think 10k can feel like a long way when you set out but once you've done it a few times you'll get halfway through it and think "Is that all I've got left to do?".

Indeed. The first half is "Jeez, this is beginning to feel like hard work" and the second is "not far to go now".

So I tried out the Asensei freebie session (well, one of them. There seem to be 4 that you can try without paying).
It consists of a warm up (quick bit of drills then a stroke rate build) then a steady state piece with coaching on form from Eric Murray, and a little 2 minute burnup at the end (24 rate with a target pace set from your pace at 18 and 20 through the session.
It's a great concept and I enjoyed it a lot. It's only 21 minutes total so I tacked on a 30 minute steady afterwards.
First off don't forget to link it to your Concept 2 Logbook account before you start. I did so I've got only the manual record of what I did.
Apart from that it's pretty straightforward to use and easy to follow and it looks well put together. It certainly passes the time nicely and it keeps you thinking about your form and what you're trying to achieve.
I've had a look and a 12 month membership works out at $10 per month (about £7-8 at the mo) and it gets cheaper if you're prepared to commit to 2 or 3 years.
I've always felt that my rowing has suffered for not having any coaching (beyond watching youtube videos which doesn't really count). I'm interested but I'm going to give the next couple of sessions a go first before I think about whether that's an investment I'm prepared to go for.

Thanks for the info about the Asensei app, Nellers. That sounds interesting - some good reasons to think about using it.
What form does the coaching on technique take? I'm imagining that it analyses the force curve and then makes some generic suggestions about how to improve the curve (but I may be way off target with that!). I'm just wondering whether it's possible to generate a good-looking curve while still having bad habits that the app can't catch.

I wonder that too. Yes, that seems to be the size of it. It gets all the data that ErgData would (stroke length, force curve, rate etc) and uses it to analyse how you generate force through the stroke then(in theory) you get the selected bit of coaching that should address the particular fault.
I guess it’s making assumptions about what you’re doing to make the curve have a particular shape so you might be doing something else entirely. The coaching on the intro stuff is pretty limited but still quite helpful I found.
Having looked a bit deeper at the website this evening I’m finding the pricing info unhelpful. I’m not sure if the $10 monthly price gets full access or I the whole range of sessions or just the Eric Murray training plan. It’s not clear to me at least.🤨

Tried the second tester session on asensei this afternoon. Again, there's a 5 minute warm up as before.
The main session is 2 x 10 minute stroke ladders. 4 mins @20, 3 mins @22, 2 mins @24 and 1 min @26, then a couple of minutes recovery and go again with the app setting you a target pace for each rate piece based off what you did on the first set.
I enjoyed the session. The prompts were clear and easy to follow, it makes it easier having Eric to follow along with and the target pace setting is very helpful and makes the session quite a test. Good fun and a hard session.
Now for the negatives: Although it's linked to the Concept2 Logbook all you get is the total time and distance excluding the warm up. No splits, no rate data, no HR data.
As I say, the session and the prompts are great but if I can't run ErgData in the background to capture the data I'm definitely not going to bother.

Pete Plan week 3. Last night was 4x1000m/5:00r @ 2k+1 (about 1:48)
Very hard work. Was trying to squeeze this in before having to pick up daughter from dance class. I nearly quit after the first 2 reps, but hung on in there and got it done.
Definitely feeling the difference of some concentrated erg training. The plan was to have a shot at a 2k this Sunday, but I am running the Silverstone 10k with my OH. Not sure if I should go for another 3 week cycle and 2k after that or go for the 2k on Monday.

Monday. You know you want to (get it out the way so it's not looming in the middle distance!).
Just did a 60 minute steady state at r18. Looking back a month I was doing this session at this sort of rate and pace but with HR about 8 BPM per minute lower! Work to do!
