Knew there was more, I’ve also ordered some bags for shredding paperwork, I have quite a lot to go including all my divorce stuff (mostly meeting minutes, drafts and bills, have kept the official docs of course)

How are you planning on getting rid of shredded paper?

Our recycling collections by the council take shredded paper....but I know not all councils do.

Found a company that will deliver bags for shredding then take them away again, £8/bag. Google domestic shredding services for something in your area. There’s just too much for my small domestic shredder!

This is the one I’ve used. I found everything from £8/bag up to about £50 for a slightly larger load. Lots of removal companies had similar services. Some will even come to your house. data-shredding.co.uk |

I compost paper shreddings, but we don't generate that sort of quantity.

I’ve just got rid of 3-4 years worth of various bills and statements and four large files of divorce paperwork! I think I’d break my shredder, they’re temperamental things at the best of times!

Our local council don't take shredded paper so like Vrap, I feed it into the compost bin. Not four files like Meglet, but I did go through one binder marked as 'useful information'. No prizes for guessing most of it wasn't at all useful and has been thrown into the recycling bin. |

You can often put shredded paper in your normal bin, not your recycling bin. Or give it to a hamster. |

Kittenheels Kath
Mr Kath has just retired as a solicitor, and generated oodles of paper over the years, in addition to being a hoarder. He has just completed a mammoth shredding task, and drip-fed the council recycling teams on a fortnightly basis. I eat my words, as I never thought he would do it. Proud of him.🙂
