I think our fixed rate finishes around then too, Pix.

Just got an email telling me that oil price quotes are suspended and if we order any it will be charged at the price on the day - even if it takes a couple of weeks to get a delivery.
Toss up now between turning the boiler of to conserve oil until the rice stabilises - and the price of leccy if we use the immersion heater for hot water.
Don’t mind not having the heating on, we have logs for the fire if we want the sitting room warming up - and plenty of jumpers and blankets.

I think fuel prices have still got a long way to go before they get to a peak, not that i could put a price or timescale on that...

So i'd be fixing now if you can, even if it seems expensive

My fixed deal comes to an end tomorrow, after which I go on to a variable rate. The fixed options are nearly double. Is it wise to fix now for what is hopefully a temporary situation?

I reckon temporary will be 3 years, if the prices ever return to pre Ukraine pricing, like covid was the moment for people to move out of office 5 days per week, this will be the watershed moment for renewable energy.

For what it's worth the prices we are seeing at the moment are not unprecedented, they were higher than this in 2008.

Lammo's guess of what temporary means is as good as anyone's, bearing in mind that anything beyond two years is "possibly never".

I would fix now if anything on offer is even vaguely affordable. Shop around, of course.

I just checked and while the variable price has gone down by three quid the option to fix has gone up by about £75

I should have fixed when I had the chance

So that’s about £130 more than the variable rate. Just as well project save energy is in progress
