I’ll be worried if prices are still high in a years time. Would probably have to switch off my freezer and not use the heating if my prices tripled.

So I’ve been stuck with British Gas for my leccy as there are very few available deals with economy 7, but I have to foot the bill for providers that went bust because they undercut and then couldn’t supply at the promised prices and that others who could switch and save benefited from.
Great.

Rosehip - I too have Economy 7 but before this energy crisis I've been able to switch providers every year, never had a problem finding an alternative supplier.
Sadly it will be a while before we can start scouting for a fixed deal. 😭

Oooh
My quotes have reduced by a fair bit today. Standard variable now£90 a month less than it was or I could fix for £53 more than the variable rate and with no exit penalty.
I wonder if my recent meter readings have influenced the calculations. We have also been really careful with energy use since Sunday as I know we are not great at managing our use. When I say we I mean the others who share my house. But we are working innit

I got a Nest thermostat and it's made us revise all our heating settings. We also find it easier to switch the heating off if we are out or we feel warm.

I've just done a Comparethemeerkat quote and it gives quotes which are at least double what I pay now, which makes me think:
1 What happened to this 54% increase malarkey 2 I don't think the Govt have yet realised how angry people are going to get over this. How are many people going to be able to afford this?

Depends if you are already on the current cap or not. I know mine will roughly double as i am still on a fixed cap until end this month which is less than the current cap rate by a decent amount.

Just logged into BG to check my tariff prices (and see if they have any news ones yet - yeah right......) My current rate vs the current i.e. until end of month cap rates.
Gas 23.78p a day + 3.416 per kwh vs 26.12p per day + 4.07 per kwh. Electric 21.876p per day + 17.462p per kwh vs 24.88p per day + 20.8p per kwh
Based on the new from April cap rates my gas is going up over double and the electric up 60% or so. Thats just on the units albeit the daily standing charge bit is relatively small compared to the total cost

Checked mine, now that I have found it!
We're on Standard Variable with edf. Currently paying £113/month but our smart meter says we're using more like £85/month.
Variable is going up -
20p per kwh to 27p per kwh Standing charge from 26p per day to 48p per day!
If we are out, the house costs about £1.55 per day. I need to work all this out by kwh rather than ponds and pence to see what the real increase is.
Oh, I could fix by for 2 years for £170/month! Ha!
