I'm on a fixed tariff that expires at the end of the month. The new fixed tariff is more than double.

Martin Lewis on the Money Program a couple of weeks ago suggested that if the fixed tariff is more than about 70% , to stay on the variable capped tariff, so that's what I'm tempted to do.

I have a £283 credit with my current supplier SO energy. This proves that Scottish Power were robbig me: my consumption has actually gone up but in stead of paying £79/month I now only pay £63! I suspect, although SO energy has dropped my monthly payments, they are keeping the credit as a buffer. They haven't mentioned anything about the price cap, only that I am still on their lowest tariff...

SO have just confirmed our payment from April. It's close to double what we pay now and amounts to 25% of my gross salary :-(

We can't have cavity wall or loft insulation and if we could afford better windows we wouldn't be so worried about the gas bill anyway!

At this point I'm probably better moving to the Mental Health Support thread...

as a herbalist do you have any pain-relieving suggestions for chilblains?

Yes!
I will pm you, tonight or tomorrow night.

I am also expecting a message from SO but am still on a fixed tariff and "think" it was for 2 years last year... *Crosses fingers*

My mum's (85 year old pensioner living on her own) has gone up by 60%. Could have been worse, I suppose. My sister and I might have to help her to be able to afford it. :-(

um
We're on a pay as you go / variable, rather than budgeted payment.
Gas yesterday notified us of a £400 increase (on approx £600) this year.
Electricity a similar £400 increase on £900 this year.

And today, just to rub it in, BT notified us of increasing broadband, which I only signed up for at the end of Jan, by £3.50 a month.

Ooof - Scottish Power tariffs just came in (our previous provider went bust in 2021 and their customers got moved to SP):

From £194 per month to £303 per month (combined)... and with SP generously offering a price fix (at higher than those rates) in case rates rise further still in six months...

I'm with SP too. I've been paying £104 pm on a fixed tariff for the past year. That tariff expires at the end of March. New fixed tariff £359 pm.

They have said the variable tariff will be cheaper, but haven't said what it will be.
