I stand in a bucket in the shower to collect the water. I then use a smaller bucket to use that water to flush the loo. Seems to be working and I've not flushed the loo from the cistern for two weeks so far. It's not a lot, but it's got to help, right?

Um from gov.uk

"Who is eligible for the Energy Bills Support Scheme?
All households with a domestic electricity connection in Great Britain are eligible for the £400 discount. There is no need to contact energy suppliers concerning this."

So whether you have gas or not is irrelevant, which makes sense as many rural properties have no access to mains gas and use alternatives such as oil, lpg, wood pellets etc.

Thanks ff.
I can sense the pollution around here with the many wood burners is about to get a lot worse.

What was once a pleasant hint of woodsmoke can get to choking smoke if there's no wind to disperse things.

In terms of curtains, if you can sew a straight line and for a medium cost outlay you can buy thermal lining material for about £5 a metre online. How much you need would obviously depend on the size of your window.
Other ideas would be to get hold of a second pair of curtains from a charity shop or freecycle and hang them together behind your usual curtains to thicken them up.

I have an old set of floor length curtains from the patio doors that I am going to hang back to back as a front door curtain. I might do something similar over the back door in the kitchen just for winter

Back in the 70s I remember poythene taped over the insides of windows in the bedrooms. Flush with the wall, so a fixed space to the window and no drafts. Wasn't too pretty, and I'm not sure how much it saved.

SS: genius!!!
I have the old curtains from my doors that I use to cover my clothes rails, but I will put them back behind the new curtains in winter! That should really help, as the double doors to my porch are super drafty and curtains unlined. Never thought about doubling up!!!

When I was redoing our bedrooms a couple of years ago I discovered that you could get preowned heavyweight lined curtains remarkably cheaply if you don't mind them not being a premium brand and aren't scared of floral patterns :)

Pegg, I shower in the bath and have been keeping the plug in and water the trees from it as it was so dry but I like the idea of flushing the loo with it! That would work in my herb building too, with the washing up bowl and a jug.

I’ve got some lined curtains that don’t fit my windows but I couldn’t even give them away. They’re currently sitting in my porch

Hang them in front of the doors Fields, to keep drafts out and heat in :)
I nearly took my old curtains to the charity shop!!!
