My ex used to use one as she felt the cold and I didn’t.

Jda! Good thinking... I was given one by a kind friend, when I lived on the breadline and had to turn the heating down to 16 in the day an 10 at night. Together with my winter AND summer duvet, that worked. I would only put it on to warm the bed, then turn it off as I would get too hot. I sleepp cold!

I have just reduced my mortgage payments to £50/month plus the ever rising interest... It all helps. Also gone through my direct debits and will cancel the week magazine. It is my only source of news, but at about £200/year, I can't afford it... |

Look at all your regular outgoings and cancel or re-negotiate contracts. I argued myself into an almost £100 reduction in home insurance, which is still nearly double for example... It all helps! I have a "naked" bt contract i.e. line rental and broadband only. I have free minutes on my mobile contract but very limited data. As a result, my mobile contract monthly payment is also.low. i used to pay way over the odds on both for included stuff I paid for and didn't use.

Small things: strip washing, only 1 shower or bath a week. Laundry at a lower temperature and shorter cycle and wear clothes again if not too dirty. I now wear one pair of gardening trousers all week, rather than 3 pairs a week, for example and t-shirts 2/3 days unless really dirty/sweatty. I change the bedding once a month rather than once a week. This has resulted in 3 loads of laundry a month in stead of 2 a week. I use a washing up bowl, small, in stead of the sink. Not only can I give the water to the trees, it has reduced my hot and cold water consumption for dishes by 50%. I only flush the loo on a number 2 and have set the cistern to the minimum amount needed for a flush. |

Smarty is good for mobile phone contracts, I think. You get a refund each month for unused data. WW and I pay less than £7 each for up to 2gb. And unlimited calls etc. (anyone want a referral code )

I have plusnet, and pay £10 per month for unlimited calls and 15Gb of data. For home broadband, I have been paying £24pm via TalkTalk. It comes through the phone line, but we don't pay BT anything - just the £24 to TalkTalk. |
