I have my battery set to charge 0030 to 0430 (Octopus go), but I can set a maximum soc level. So if I don't want to charge from the grid I just set this to a low value (eg 10% - i check the weather forecast to estimate how much solar I'll get and hence what soc i need in the battery in the morning). During those four hours the battery won't discharge, so any usage is from the grid, but that's minimal during those hours. Works for me - last month I drew 320kWh from the grid during the off-peak time and just 15kWh 0430-0030 peak time, while exporting less than 10kWh.

On a lighter note, I'm pleased to see that Ovo systems are back up to their usual high standard. Unfortunately it seems we've fallen behind on our payments.

🤣🤣

Realised the previous battery charging discussion is probably more relevant to the microgeneration thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/solar-pv-and-other-domestic-micro-generation-techonologies-62563/16

TR, do you have to set SOC back to 100% when you wake up to allow solar to charge battery? Seems a bit of a faff! Or have you got a setting for SOC for night charge and separate SOC for solar charge. I haven't found that, I don't think? My battery is GivEnergy. What is yours? :-) G

I don't know about setting on solar installations, but I have just found your original response to my comment. I will swear blind it wasn't there this morning when I had a notification about it.

Anyway, at least I'm not alone in these things.

Our installer is our son-in-law, so he is (a) probably comparatively unversed in these things because he does all kinds of technical building work, and (b) probably working on solving our problem more than an ordinary company would.

So far we've paid < £6000 for hardware, with the installation costs still to come.

Very pleased to see that we are getting more power than we use in the background even when the sky is thoroughly overcast.

Octopus tell me that by switching off or not using appliances during their saver sessions I earned £13 for crediting to my account. At my current rate of consumption plus standing charge that's the bill for about a week.

so ofgem is thinking of allowing energy companies to charge everyone an additional £30 to cover losses from other customers missing payments. Err - surely your large profits can do that? (and the 'standing charge' before we actually use anything is big already)
Rant over!

Mmm. Perhaps also indicative of the huge amount of people defaulting on their energy payments.

Just got an email from British Gas saying they are doubling my direct debit. Why did they spend the last 6 months or whatever sending the government payment of £67 to my bank account then?

About This Thread

We’ve had word from our energy company that our direct debit from April onwards will be double the current amount. How’s everyone else fared?
