Googling the model number on that meter gives the following below. There's links on the page to pdf of manuals etc

https://www.rayleigh.com/rihxe12r-mid-certified-single-phase-solar-generation-meter-with-pulse-output-with-import-and-export.html#:~:text=RIHXE12R%20is%20a%20MID%20B%26D,input%20current%20is%20100%20Amps.

RIHXE12R is a compact MID Certified single phase two wire solar generation meter. The cost-efficient design and offers an excellent price-performance ratio.

RIHXE12R is a MID B&D certified energy meter that measures kWh’s on a single rate. The maximum input current is 100 Amps.
RIHXE12R has a Class Accuracy B according to the MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) approval. RIHXE12R provides measurement of active (kWh) energy in both import and export directions with registers shown on the large easy to read LCD display.
RIHXE12R is sealed for life by a liquid welding process and therefore does not carry an external wire seal. RIHXE12R is approved to EN 50470-1, EN50470-3.

The meter has two registers
000 is the Import Reading - which is what is being generated by the inverter.
010 is the Export Reading - which is what is coming back from the grid

The meter will autoscroll between the 2 readings every 15 seconds.

This model has been MID certified to the conform to B+D (ie type examination and quality assurance of the production process) of the MID approval process.

This meter is designed with reverse energy detection functionality. Once the reverse energy is detected, the symbol above will be shown on LCD. The reverse energy indication will disappear once the reverse energy event is removed.
Note: The power threshold of reverse energy is 5% of Un*Ib. When reverse energy exists, and the current power exceeds the power threshold, then this event will be detected as reverse energy.

I don't really understand that but I get the impression that this is not the right meter for my pv panel export readings? For billing purposes, anyway.

Is it just for interest or comparison Muttley? Or are Octopus asking you to take a reading manually? While you do need the ability to take a manual reading in practice you never have to. The tech just works! :-) G

Their email t'other day said:

The latest export reading we did receive was 4553.4 in Nov - are there no other reads?

and followed it with a link to how to figure out what kind of meter I have and how to read it.

But my account online shows export readings to 28 Feb, after I prompted them on 1 March. And I received an export payment, which seems about the right amount looking at the export numbers.

They do seem quite shambolic. I'll ask them to clarify.

I would just keep pushing them to check their own readings. Yes, they can be a bit disjointed! :-) G

We have new solar panels ith batteries and it is set up so that when the battery isn't full and the sun isn't shining, the batteries are charged from the grid. Apparently a software problem. I find that all too easy to believe.

Chris, I'm wrestling with similar problem with solar + battery - in winter we had battery charging 00.30- 04.30 cheap rate and we'd use most of that each day. Instead of 10kWh x 38p it was 7.5p so saving £3 a day or £90 a month. But now with sun shining since April we want to turn off night charging. Sun will charge the 5 or 6kWh the battery needs topped up by about 10am. But can't turn off night charging. It's not a big deal - 40p of night tariff vs free? But it's annoying. So i changed some sttings and only stting that stopped night charging also stopped battery discharging! So we've got fully charged battery, but if we turn on cooker it uses the grid. At peak rate! So I put it back to original strings. Asked installer for help and he changed some settings. He asked me not to make changes (fair enough). But he's got to the stage I got - it's stopped charging at night but battery not discharging! And he won't be back at work til Tues!

Not the end of the world but annoying. Well get there! :-) G
