Woah! Didn't get round to submitting my reading last week. I now have an estimated bill twice as high as my actual consumption 😱 Just submitted my reading now... Hope they will amend it...

Well, new home and new energy expense! Our house is in a tiny village that has no gas supply, so we have oil-fired heating and cooking is via an electric Aga that is currently turned off, we're scared of it anyway so that's probably a good thing. Anyhow, Eon are still charging me the same amount for electric only that they charged for a combined bill at our last house. Given that we'll probably turn the Aga on in Autumn, I'm wondering if it's sensible to let the credit build up - does anyone have experience of an electric Aga and it's power consumption? In case anyone's wondering, the house has a one bedroom annexe attached and we're running next door to use the cooking facilities there 🙂
There is a 1200 litre oil tank and I've just paid for a 1000 litres to be delivered, I nearly had heart failure paying for that and apparently oil is quite low at the moment, I truly hope it lasts a while. Owning this place could be expensive!

Is it 70p per litre? It's about ave. I've seen as low as 40 and over £1.00. We tried to minimise use this winter and went down from 3000 litres to 1000. Mostly by shivering!
Out electric Aga equiv is 3kW for oven. Lest for hob rungs. Same as any elec oven and hob. Unless uou meanness one that's designed to be on permanently on low heat as a type of room heater. Then I don't know. That makes sense when it's free peat or wood fired but crazy if it's elec, I would have thought?
Good luck. G

I have friends with an electric Aga... Crippled them even before the price hikes 😩 I'd consider taking it out!

@jda - already done that, to a considerable degree 🙂
@Hanneke - not an option for the foreseeable future I'm afraid

That is a shame... In that case, I'd build up credit.

Can't the Aga be converted into either oil or solid fuel. Sure that I heard that somewhere.

Honestly you'd be better getting a 100 pound second hand electric cooker and never turn on the Aga again. They made sense when people had free peat (rural) or free coal (mining areas). Electric doesn't make sense. Surely?
