It's related to the cost of wholesale. That would normally be seasonal but when oil shocks hit or any other market forces it can vary between 40p and £1.10 so makes a huge difference what price you buy at and whether you can fix a price (I never have). Trying to get off it for environmental reasons. G

I do understand the supply / demand fundamentals of the global crude market and at least some of the refining econs. But, the fact that home-delivered fuel oil is more expensive in the winter I’m slightly more confused about. Demand is up I suppose and supply is constant. Could be a bit of a rip-off though. One that we can all do nothing about unless you’ve space for your own gigantic storage! Just got the email from Octopus that my 2 year fix on power / gas is coming to an end. I’d hoped they’d forget 😂. |

It's a pretty competitive market here in Scotland WW. You usually have 2 or 3 suppliers to choose from. They are pretty close to the wholesale market price - if you dint fix it fluctuates daily. Checkout boilerjuice.com for comparability. G |

BoilerJuice is where I ordered my forthcoming delivery, 55p/litre. I'm now also a member of my local oil club.

Wish I'd switched to Flux in April, before my Octopus fixed came to an end. With all this dunshine I've been quids in. Might hit £200 up in a sunny month, which is beyond what I expected. G

About £100 added to my float after last month of gas/elec usage, so now £230 odd +ve. Surplus will end up around £600 I'd guess by end Sept - I'm away 3 weeks in Ocober which gets me to £700 - with prices due to fall (surely) wondering whether to reduce DD. Danger is with a massive surplus all last Winter's good fuel saving habits will go down the gurgler..... |

Oil delivery made yesterday, it's a 1200 litre tank and is now pretty full. I also added one of those fuel additives for a cleaner burn, we'll see how we get on!

You just made me look, I think our oil tank is 1,200 litres. I always assumed it was 1,000 litres and that each 1/10 on the level reading was = 100 litres. Wrong! Cheers, We were full in mid March, down to 8 mid May, and would expect to be about 6/10 by Sept when we really start using. That is only 2 x 1/2 hour water heating (occasional blast of central heating on cold summer day or if we have someone ill or something). I would like to eliminate this over time (enviro and cost reasons). But it wasn't the first thing to fix. First is winter heating to get off oil. As I said, it would normally use 10/10 up to 2-3x over winter. We reduced that this winter by being very frugal, but we need a new heating method. Still investigating! Best of luck NE! G |
