I haven’t really looked at prices for a little while but given I’ve got to get on a new contract in the next few weeks I went to look at UK wholesale natgas prices. Things have tumbled nicely from the highs of last year but unfortunately prices for July delivery are up 70% since the 1st June. That’s driven the forward curve up and prices for winter24 delivery are up 30% over the same period. There’s been a few infrastructure outages that have spooked the market. Europe’s supply / demand balance still looks pretty tight through 2026 when new infrastructure is due to be on and this is a reminder to the market that we’re not quite out of the woods yet. I suppose we’re still only one Russian action away from another big ramp up in price. Gah….

I noticed that OPEC are also looking at some supply cuts to try and prop up the crude price. It’s perhaps a wise time to have filled up those big fuel oil tanks!!

It's still very volatile, isn't it WW?

You'd expect electricity to be coming down somewhat, but industry analysts are expecting winter pricing to be the same or even slight increasing from current levels, I heard.

On the Martin Lewis program last night he was saying that the July energy price is already announced at down 17% from Apr, October forecast is down another 7% and I think the Jan 2024 was up 1%. The Oct and Jan forecasts are from Cornwall Institute

Just had an e-mail from Eon saying my bills are coming down as of the first of July. Any subsequent lessening of my DD will be decided in a short while.
Good news at the moment, but as previously stated, not a great deal of savings now as in summer we don't use very much of either gas or electric. But if it stays lower (still not low by any means) over winter, that would help a lot of people.

The energy price cap change for 1st July was announced a few weeks ago. Roughly a 17% drop from current rates 🙂

Helpful, but my consumption drops by 50% in summer anyway so not as much of a help as it would be in winter.

I had the same email.
