Tomsmum no. As a frontline worker I cannot afford to think like that. Saw that GP advance care planning letter. Yes. It looks horrible. But. It's the facts Pity is this kind of discussion needs to be had for anyone you think might die in the next 12 months. And we dont. |

My mum initiated that discussion many years before she died and had an unwavering wish for her life to be allowed to end. We are grateful for her openness and steadiness.

Still in Oz here and it is like a ghost town everywhere, I agree it’s sad and eerie. I’ve seen some posts on fb one of Las Vegas and one of London completely deserted it’s reminded me of I Am Legend. Today we went to Dorrigo National Park for a proper rainforest hike really spectacular and we only passed 2 rangers working on regeneration and towards the end 2 other hikers. On a positive to see the place without hordes of people was a privilege although still saw minimal wildlife. I’m sure the pythons were sniggering behind a rock. |

Interesting to see that WHO are starting to think we should all be wearing face masks even if they aren't medical grade (and therefore pretty useless I thought?)

Think this is the first time that I've seen it said that the virus can't be passed by an infected person breathing near you, has to be by coughing [what about sneezing ?] “The protocol,” explains Dr Jane Greatorex, a virologist, microbiologist and senior tutor at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, “is that nobody can breathe the virus on you. Experiments have been done looking at that. But if you are passing too close and an individual coughs on you, then you do stand a chance of being infected.” theguardian.com |

A sneeze is just a cough through your nose, I was told the other day! Interesting, wonder how robust Dr GReatorex's backup data is. I must admit though that's the basis on which I operate in terms of nervousness out and about in the shops. I'm more concerned that the packet of XYZ that I pick up might be one put back a few moments ago by someone who sneezed into their hand. Hence making sure of good hand hygiene. |

AIUI the masks don't really filter or trap a huge amount and aren't really acting as a medical-grade protection, what they do is prevent people from coughing out great lungfuls of droplets over a long distance. Just by being an obstacle/baffle for the airflow. Also could possibly prevent a bit of face touching (though there are some ways they may encourage it).
