I would expect the cough is just residual irritation from the damage done and not an ongoing infection of any type. In most cases, that is. Last time I had a decent dose of flu I was coughing for weeks, covid hasn’t been quite that bad. Just got over a fairly nasty cold (that wasn’t Covid) that my wife is now suffering from. Surprising long incubation period, she was more than a week behind me.

Yes, that's my thinking (and hoping). If I'm testing negative then that should mean the bug itself has cleared off. However, I am slightly wary of complacency given reports of runners and others similar apparently being disproportionately affected by long covid. I shall resume training very gradually in case there's still some of it lurking in a dark recess somewhere.

I’m five weeks since my positive test and still got a bit of a cough. Haven’t tried running yet as energy not back fully and not sure about the HR yet. Trying to pick the walking up again a bit more this week and see how that is. Take care, folks.

My heart rate was 120 just sitting down earlier, so I'm going to give it quite a bit longer before doing much exercise. @phal that seems like a good approach. |

My cough has lingered on and off for ( mostly on ) for about 3.5 years after Covid the first time. At the moment it’s really bad but not sure if there is any other infection going on. I have a GP appointment booked for 2 weeks today as it’s theirs first. It’s debilitating at worst and barely manageable at best but have tried all sorts. Just wondering if it could be croup or whooping cough - not that I have googled either. |

Well, I went for a very gentle bimble this morning, 60 seconds easy jog and 30 seconds slow walk. Just a couple of miles. Hr was climbing rather higher than I liked towards the end but it was also dropping back down quickly during the walks, which is a good sign. So clearly a lot of aerobic fitness lost but hopefully cardio system in reasonable order. Throat still rough but slowly improving. Pre-covid it wouldn't even have passed as a warmup. Gah. |

Still coughing like a goodun, but managed without a Strepsil yesterday, so the throat is feeling better.

Muttley - I was the same when I started back and I'm strictly sticking to base training HR even now 3 months on. But I am also recovering from sciatica so still doing a sort of run and walk but progressing. And I feel well and healthy so not bothered about pace, just happy to be out there. Grast girl - glad you're starting to recover. It's a rotten virus. |

Pretty much the only thing that soothed my throat was chocolate milk drink cold from the fridge. I'm still taking a spoonful of cough mixture at bedtime but not sure it's doing anything. I guess the Shades approach is the one to take. Indeed, what a rotten virus. |

Particularly annoyed by this because 2024 was a good year until I caught covid. I had no injuries and no lurgies and no layoffs, and in all but one (if memory serves) of the races I did I improved on my 2023 times. Grrrrrr.
