Ran into the city centre, 6:30 on a bright spring evening and Belfast is a ghost town. Eerie and sad in equal measure.

Much less traffic here. I took the opportunity today to run a loop that has me on a pavementless section of the main road for about three-quarters of a mile. Wouldn't normally dare, but I only had to hop on and off the grass verge a handful of times and I knew there was no chance of meeting any other pedestrians there. And my 15 mile car commute has been reduced by several minutes.

The govt also says everyone over 70 is really vulnerable and should stay in. And the supermarkets say they support the vulnerable and log on gov.uk. And gov.uk says rely on your family and friends

Is Everyone else second guessing every feeling they have? Feeling tired and backache.. is this it? Or just two solid days at a desk doing e-learning? Time will tell!

Definitely less traffic here than last week, the number of lorries is markedly reduced. There's a lot of haulage passes through the Fens. I'm trying to digest this piece about testing theguardian.com My instinctive reaction (as a scientist) is to be worried about the accuracy and validity of using other reagents. I think any "off protocol" use would need proper evaluation first. Not much point in scaling up testing and then finding out they were wrong. |

The special shopping times for the elderly at Tesco etc will be pretty quiet if no-one is allowed to go to them. I'm on a main junction in a small town (with a view to another one). Traffic is down through the day, but they are far from deserted. Although there is is no rush hour any more (yes! We have a rush hour. Much of it avoiding the sometimes several miles of congestion on the neighbouring motorway). My mother received a letter from her surgery (as requested by the Scottish Government apparently - I haven't read or heard any mention of it elsewhere) regarding advance care planning including preference for hospital or home treatment and CPR - or otherwise. With a follow up call from the practice nurse. She wasn't too happy ![]() And thank you for your kind words and thoughts after my post yesterday. We appear just to be set to carry on, and, well, who knows. |

I would say there was 2-3 times more traffic today than when I last ran (similar route, similar time of day) and it was not always possible simply to run in the middle of the road to avoid pedestrians on both sides at once.

Agree with your last sentence MsG. The USA's CDC originally sent out kits with faulty negative controls which ultimately led to a huge backlog in the USA testing technologyreview.com This was reported by many other sources. |
