Interesting discussion I think on More or Less podcast(although can't find it now) about the base line number of daily/weekly/monthly deaths (especially in over 80s) and how these may be twisted by anti vaxers to demonstrate the vaccine is dangerous. (Ie X number had the vaccine and Y number died the next week = vaccine is bad). Likely to be given some airtime in the next few weeks. Forewarned (and all that) ...

Is it typical that vaccinations stop you from getting ill but don't stop you from spreading the disease? Could I pick up polio and go round infecting people for weeks or months or years?

Is it terribly difficult to find out if that's happening?

Current NHS staff need their days off, they shouldn’t be using them to vaccinate. Meanwhile I, and many others that I know of, are stuck wading through reams of red tape and forms trying to get taken on as vaccinators. It’s just like March all over again - by the time I got to do any work I wasn’t needed then - I hoped they’d learned from that. Apparently not.

I forgot to mention yesterday, my vaccine was at the local hospital where I am employed (although wfh atm) the vaccinators were paramedics not hospital staff.

Couldn’t agree more about NHS staff HB - they must be exhausted. I don’t mind who jabs me as long as they know what they’re doing!

eL Bee! is going to do a Saturday jabbing session on a day when I'll be at work. Only one, though, because I plan to drop Saturdays due to the "exhausted" thing and also because at this time of year working 10am-4pm means I don't see daylight.

ChrisHB - all the immunologists go on about it so much, it must be reasonably common, although I've not heard which ones still have the issue. At one stage, not sure if it's still true, some polio cases were from the vaccine rather than a wild variant. There's also the problem of just because you're vaccinated doesn't stop you spreading covid on your hands if you're not careful.

Once the mass vaccination gets started it should be possible to work it out, although I suspect it won't be the UK that provides the proof as we don't seem to do backwards as well as forwards contact tracing, so we don't know where people picked it up from often.

our local hospital is coping at the moment, using with redeployment, extra shifts and now starting to cancel theatre lists. This time around though staff morale is much worse. They certainly don't need extra work to do. Like HB im still wading through red tape to try to help with vaccinating but with little expectation of success.

I know someone else that has volunteered to be a vaccinator, she is a qualified nurse but gave up her registration to look after her mum who has recently died, she is desperate to help but the wheels turn slowly.
