Ah, no. That maslen loaf is roughly a wheat / rye mix (ie "maslin") soda bread. The Grant loaf is a weird no knead wet (nearly 100% water in bakers percentage) wholemeal in a tin yeasted loaf from the war:

I was told ithe Doris Grant loaf was a good introduction to breadmaking, but I think it is quite offputting. I may have another go at it.

That wicked stepmother loaf looks good, but maybe to many different flavours in it for my taste.

The only time I tried a totally no-knead bread I wasn't that impressed. Sourdough is usually handled very minimally; it tends to be quite wet so not very kneadable. The method I used has three lots of stretching before a final shape; the total time spent handling the dough is about two minutes.

Fizz :-)
I made a miracle :-)

It’s a bit of an odd shape as my only cast iron casserole dish is a massive oval, so I padded one end with newspaper. I also forgot to slash it!
I’ve had a tiny tester, and it’s pretty good.

It’s the Pain de Campagne version as I didn’t have quite enough strong white.

I think I know where I went wrong, so I hope to get it a bit less rustic next time :-)
