I jogged continuously for 40 min this morning, completing my planned 10-week modified C25K jog/walk programme to promote recovery of my inflamed right knee. The programme has been a success insofar as my knee has been quite happy. The inflammation, which had emerged suddenly over a period of a few days almost 6 months ago, has been steadily resolving for the past three months. The swelling is now scarcely perceptible. I had been severely disabled at first and had lost fitness in the first few months. I have now at least arrested the decline of my fitness. I am contemplating the next stage in my recovery. Although this is by far the most severe episode of arthritis I have experienced, I have suffered bouts of acute arthritis in various joints on the past forty years. This is the third episode that has affected my right knee. Xray reveals appreciable damage to joint, so I need to be careful to minimize future damage. However, it is also desirable for both my health and my enjoyment of life that I remain fairly fit. My main goal is to be fit enough to continue to jog on the fells. Most of my recent jog/walk sessions have been on fairly easy terrain. The next phase will include some more demanding terrain. |

That is such good news @Canute and inspiring for others. I certainly feel that although I've slowed down a lot, and don't really have an appetite for competitive events, I really want to continue to be able to get out on the trails regularly, so need to put in the effort to maintain fitness. |

I'm very pleased to read of your progress Canute. I hope the progression to more challenging terrain is successful. My right knee continues to grumble, sometimes loudly, more muted at other times. I've been unable to pin down what sets it off, and it's certainly not getting any worse, so I'm continuing to run albeit very slowly. I think 10ks will be my longest races henceforward - I never liked half marathons anyway |

My right Achilles isn’t happy with my current two or occasional three runs per week. It felt like I was on my way to being right again but it’s flared up badly the last week or so

Thanks all, for your supportive comments. @LazyDaisy I am sorry to hear that your knee continues to grumble, but it is good that you have a strategy for preventing it getting too troublesome. @Derby Tup it is frustrating to have experienced a flareup. I hope it settles quickly. |

Managed to break through the 2024 1000km mark today with a 10k lunchtime run. First time I've managed that since 2019. 2020 was the year that my achilles tendinitis struck and it wasn't until the middle of last year that I was running again at all. It's been a slow recovery and I'm slower than a herd of tortoises stampeding through treacle, but I run. |
